PlayStation 3 exclusive racer Gran Turismo 5 was delayed from 3rd November to "before Christmas" because the developmen…

Not logistics then. Repercussions of them throwing everything including several kitchen sinks into the game by the sound of it.

Christ no! You've experienced the patch mechanism with Prologue I assume.

I'll happily (is that the right word?) wait a little longer. It's one of those things where we have all waited this long, that putting it back by a few months isn't that difficult for me.

Not only will it give Polyphony more time to iron out the bugs, but it will also give GT5 more breathing room if it is released next year, and after all this development time, I'm sure Sony want to pick the perfect release window to ensure maximum sales.

Now let's see if that Forza 3 GOTY edition will be delayed untill a new GT5 date is set.

It's probably most concerning that it's a small window, a small delay and yet they can't give a new date

There's been loads of coverage of this in the mainstream press across the globe and the many rumours about the masters not reaching the blu-ray plants a little late appear to be true.

Game Reactor have one of their staff at Polyphony and he's confirmed that the masters were ready just 3 days after their allocated slot on the production line. Because it was late and because the plants are running at full pelt producing blu-rays for companies and the approaching Christmas rush there's just no space before the previously announced launch date.

I must be psychic. I was gonna ask for this for my Birthday (Nov 6th) but thought better of it

Game have now emailed me and said Dec 2010. Laughable how Sony's beloved bluray format has come back to bite them in the arse.

Was does the game delay have to do with BD?
There are many BD production lines throughout the world, surely they shouldn't have a problem pressing the discs on time?

Following on from my previous post, some comments from senior moderator on blu-ray.com.
The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350.

This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a three week slot big enough to make seven million+ copies of this and get them shipped out.

If you want to blame anyone, I would direct it at the pirates and hackers, SCE never had any real SDK restrictions before firmware 3.41 was compromised.

It seems pretty disingenious to throw the blame at the hackers (without trying to sound like I'm defending them), since their influence on that situation was indirect. If Sony made the decision to ensure the game contained SDK 350, then it was either careless of Sony to not predict the knock-on effect on the manufacturing side, or they were aware of this and felt it was worthwhile in the long run (which would make sense, given the amount this game will surely sell, it would be a good idea to include the updated firmware with this).

You need to understand the manufacturing "slot" would have been booked months in advance. The recent hacking activity has clearly caused this. Personally I'm happy for the delay now, that's a perfectly good reason imo.

As you say, this will force people upto 3.5 and that's a good thing for legit gamers.

Oh I agree, I was just pointing out that this was a conscious decision (assuming what that moderator says is true). My own views on hacking aside, from Sony's perspective it's probably a sensible decision.

Yep. I imagine people who are "tempted" by the hack will, given this choice, go for GT5 instead. Good win for Sony

If any game is going to get people up to 3.5, it's this one. Interesting to hear the numbers they're pressing though (Assuming they're accurate)!

I can vouch for that. My PS3's packed up on the shelf waiting for GT5. Despite being tempted by a £13 jailbreak usb thingy, I decided not to bother. Plus there's nothing interesting enough on the jailbreaking side of things to convince me to do any pre-3.5 experimenting.
