It's like me using a toaster as an analogy. When I look for a new toaster, I want one that will toast my bread better, quicker or cheaper (or a combination of the three). I do not want a toaster that I can watch the TV on as well!

They could certainly do with reworking the logo so it looks distinct from the first machine. Certainly any talk that they'll be in Sega's position in the near future is ludicrous as is any discussion that the iPad/touch has any heavy relevance to the core gaming market. Nintendo's problems have stemmed from arrogance, the same arrogance that saw Sony lose its leading position, Sega lose there's etc. Whoever is at the top starts to buy their own success story and wades in pitched completely wrong as something cheaper and distinct comes in and steals the thunder. It's possible that the situation with the 3DS might actually prove to be hugely beneficial to the WiiU by the time it comes out.

@Daragon - But isn't the iPhone, iPad that toaster with a TV or is that your exact point? They're do-it-all devices.
Personally, I still think there is room for dedicated (ish) full-price gaming handhelds like the 3DS and, while there have been iOS games I've loved, few approach the level of depth of many full DS or PSP games, or even GB or GBA games, and physical controls can't be beaten.

The I-products are do-it-all gadgets yes, but I would wager that people aren't buying them with gaming at the absolute forefront of their mind. Secondly, I used the toaster as an analogy because a toaster and a TV aren't things that people are looking for as a whole, combined product. The I-gadgets appeal broadly because they are capable of achieving a range of things that people want from a PDA for example or even a laptop.
If the 3DS didn't have 3D going for it, I wouldn't care as I suspect a lot of people wouldn't. I want better games from a graphics and gameplay perspective like I've said. The 3DS can deliver those, but the problem is it isn't at the current time which it probably should be doing.

Even Pilot Wings, Ghost Recon, Resi and Ridge I find great too. I dont regret the purchase one bit, I love it and half of the time I dont play in 3D. (Comfort reasons) With the games that are coming, its all good for me. The only thing I can gripe at is the battery life.

The idea that there is a shortage of good games seems crazy to me. That just isn't true...
Zelda: OOT
Starfox 64
Ridge Racer 3D
Pilotwings
Steel Diver
nintendogs + cats
Super Street Fighter IV 3D
If you can't find 3-4 games worth playing it that lot you'll never be happy - and that is just in the first three months
and after that there are the interesting ones... Ghost Recon, Samurai Warriors, Dream Trigger, Galaga Dimensions...

People on the whole however want brand new and they want decent. New should not mean average.
OoT is widely considered to be the best game in gaming history, but even that has failed to have had a promising impact on hardware sales.

Ridge Racer only really stands out to me because it's my entry into the series.
