I really can't think of any to be honest.

I don't think Bioshock really had any plot to talk of, the setting was everything and that combined with some decent gameplay was more than enough to carry the game for me.

Half Life is the game that so often gets talked about when it comes to narrative but again there was nothing really worthy of mention. Where it did really stand out was in the methods that it used to tell what was essentially a pretty ineffectual story as at the time it was a new way of doing things.

The worst offenders in this type of game are the Modern Warfare games which really are offensively bad.

The only sort of plot I really need in games like these is an arrow pointing me towards the next room/field/submarine/planet and finding somebody there shooting at me so that I know who's idiot face to stab off.

I'd even say that the Modern Warfare games would benefit somewhat from completely removing the stories which I presume have been discovered in the back of one of the developer's primary school homework books.

I really don't benefit from sitting through a ten minute narrative cutscene in these types of games any more than I would benefit from reading about shooting Russian's arms off for eight hours while part way through chapter six of Finnegans Wake.

      Spot on.

I forgot about Half Life 2. I'm not sure the story was good, so much as it was told well. There's a difference. Worryingly, I don't think an FPS has even matched that level of story telling since

A list of the official main beta issues that Guerilla says will be fixed for day 1. Unsurprisingly, connection issues top it.

        Famous last words and all

Just played through the Single player demo, thought it was excellent.

As for the story, I dont know if the demo represents the game well, but it does give you that cool action movie vibe with all chaos on display and crazy things happening like sev strapping on a jetpack and storming a Helgast base on his lonesome.

That kind of thing is all the game needs really in regards to what happens in the cutscenes for me. Though the trailer that plays when you complete the demo hints at more, I guess the full game dosent really deliver what it hints at though if the reviews are anything to go by. Still, like I said, I'm not bothered about that really.

As for the game itself, seems to be fantastic set peice based stuff as youd expect, though its virtualy impossible to die if you stand next to Rico as he keeps reviving you.

I'm increasingly tempted by the CE edition for the awesome soundtrack or the LE for the Jungle Green Dual Shock. So many versions but they're all missing something

Rico isn't always close by, and he can go down too. But hes improved BIG time. I don't even hate him now.

So that's why KZ3 is rated PEGI 18

I'm sure in the full game he'll have ample opportunity to act like a toss piece again and make you wish you could shoot him in the face.

I found the revive mechanic a tad annoying. I don't enjoy lying face down on the ground like Stevie Wonder while I wait for Rico to try and revive me, only for him to be cut down in the inevitable hail of bullets.

The demo did provide me with one amazingly hilarious, but totally unintentional, moment though - as they've made big thing of the melee attacks it's nice to see the AI doing it too. Except they seem to love it a bit too much - I came down some stairs and a Helghan was waiting underneath for me - just as I went to shoot him an ISA guy comes through the door next to him and they met each other face on, melee'ing one another and killing each other stone dead.

It just looked like they'd run straight into one another and knocked each other out, complete with both of them falling back into the snow in comedic fashion

Never understood why people hated Rico, thought he was amusing in his own stereotypical gung ho American space marine kind of way.

There have been far more offensive videogame characters.

Demo was fab. No wandering around just full on action the entire time. Superb. One thing though:

The game advises me to put my TV into Game mode if it has it (it does, I assume it switches off a bunch of processing to reduce lag?) so I did. Then it tells me to adjust the brightness until I can see the Helghast logo but nomatter how high I put it I can never see the logo, just a black circle in the middle of surrounding red. Any ideas?

Two questions - is the demo likely to spoil the first experience of the game (I felt that familiarity with the demo of KZ2 took away some of the impact last time out).. and does the demo also support Move controls? I want to get as much Move experience under my belt as I can.

Same here, couldn't see it. Don't think it made any difference though as the game didn't look to dark.

Darwock it does support Move. As to whether the demo will spoil the initial impact, that's probably a subjective thing. It'll certainly spoil your first time experience of the jet pack.

Hmm, well I guess it's not going be a radical departure from KZ2 anyway, so I'll take the chance to play with the Move a bit more! Cheers

Yeah I played it with the Move controls. It feels like the ultimate FPS control scheme to me, surpassing KBM even in terms if immersion. Whilst the initial impact of the final game will be lost if you play the demo, I recommend doing so if you are going to use Move controls. Without practice you'll eb at a distinct disadvantage on your first playthrough otherwise.

Alternatively, play the multiplayer beta using bots in order to get used to the controls but that won't teach you the cover mechanic.

OK... where the hell is it? I can only find the open beta and a KZ2 demo :/
