Im finding it hard to believe that people aren't understanding how it's two separate things. This has always been the same in the mass effect games, your actions only really contributed to who was alive at the end of the story, the actual outcome of the story has always been the same for everyone. For instance Shepard could die at the end of ME2 but the outcome of the story was still the same. He still defeated the collectors
At the end of the day, if you remove the deaths of characters from these games all you have left is a story where Shepard runs around kicking bad guys asses and saving planets, that's it. It's the characters and their deaths that contribute to each players own personal story.
