I would personally be surprised if it costs more than £399.

I think an optional more expensive higher margin SKU is a possibility though.

I guess it’s total speculation but, building on your own speculation and the fact that the leaked renders looked just like a huge Switch, for me these things throw it into Switch Pro territory, or perhaps Gameboy Color might be a relevant comparison. As you guys are recognising, there is some merit in trying to not kill the Switch sales dead while launching a new system. So if this becomes a premium upgraded version of the Switch that can play all existing Switch games, with new games seeing worthwhile boosts in graphics and performance along with a few exclusive games, it might come in at a fairly hefty price point.

This is what I’ve been doing, just buy all the Switch games before the dam things disappear or go up. Curry’s has been good for £20 switch games for me this year, even if I’m not going to play them right away.

I'm in on something like £379.99 or close to that, possibly £349.99 if they reorganise the Switch 1 line up. It's Nintendo, they aren't going to premium price point it. They aim for mass market and try to hold the price across the lifetime of the system. You only have to look at Steam Deck to get an indicator of where the system is likely to land, bearing in mind it isn't going to be a power hungry monster beast of a handheld either.

I mean....Nintendo literally came out a while ago and stated that R&D (something they have never spent big money on historically) has become more expensive.

If that isn't telling everybody to get ready for a £400+ RRP on Switch 2 then I'll be amazed.

The Steam Deck comparison simply doesn't work because Steam Deck simply doesn't have Nintendo software - a massive factor that Nintendo will quite clearly leverage and use to justify Switch 2 being premium-priced.

Not long till we find out, Nintendo has seen its market lead completely atomise twice before so I'm not expecting them to pull a Sony and feel they can command a high premium for what will be a standard model. They'll benefit from producing much higher volumes than Deck but also will be dependent on ensuring hardware shifts to secure those software sales so I'm expecting brand protection to factor into a middle ground of price point.

No, they wont pull a Sony...or at least, I wouldn't think that they would.

But even with all of their money, Nintendo are not immune from higher production costs or the reality of passing those costs onto the customer.

It'll definitely be interesting to see where they land. Our household is probably more liberal than most in terms of how much money gets spent on tech *cough*totally my fault*cough and two of the kids want a Switch 2, one in particular. If it rides in north of £400 though they'll definitely come away disappointed, a certain amount of the calculation around the system is on how much kids use it but also it can ride out the wear and tear and premium price points rule it out for them. I'd be more likely to ride the Switch out much longer with them and eventually get a second hand system instead for Switch 2.

A leaker has claimed that Nintendo has courted third party studios to produce remasters of some of their games to stack up the Switch lineup for 2025. This is said to be because the company's own studios are now too tied up working on Switch 2 titles. Amongst the line up remasters said to be inbound are:

                    -Splinter Cell: Blacklist Remastered
                    -Rayman Remastered
                    -Driver 1 & 2
-Wii Remasters from EA and a PS3 remaster from Namco

I know it’s most likely bull**** rumours but can you imagine the scenes if a Ridge Racer 7 remaster intended for the Switch got held back to be used instead as a Switch 2 launch game?

The only EA game on Wii that comes to mind is Boom Blox.

Splinter Cell Blacklist, ****ing hell, was anyone asking for that?

Assuming it's not totally made-up, Driver 1 and 2 are actually really intriguing ones though. Those were really cool games at the time but are very dated now so would probably require a pretty substantial amount of work. The results of that could be very interesting. We don't get a lot of 70s-set, Bullitt inspired stuff.

If it was happening one thing I would really like to see is a switch up to the objectives in some levels because after a certain point Driver always felt like you were playing a bumper car simulator - the solution to literally every problem was always ramming another car, with the exception of the levels where you had to either keep a passenger calm or frighten them (which were a very cool idea).

Also they should make the tutorial level easier. It drove me practically to insanity as a kid. But I think that would be a given in 2024.

I mean.... they'll need filler content while they find ways to justify repackaging and re-releasing the Switch catalogue for £69.99 a pop, no?
