Imagine being a scalper for PS5 Pro...

        "£1500 please!!!"

No mention of any benefits for PSVR2. And that price. That’s coming from a man who paid £400 for a 3DO at launch!

According to the Bank of England inflation calculator, £400 in 1993 is equivalent to £833 today. So it's actually pretty much the exact same price as a 3DO back then.

Of course, the PS5 Pro doesn't include Crash 'n' Burn so is arguably worse value.

At least the 3DO was a big leap from the MD and SNES. The PS5 Pixel Peepers edition isn’t anywhere near as much of an upgrade.

I wasn't really paying attention for the last decade or so but am I right in thinking that there weren't really PS4 Pro exclusives? So the difference will be... frame rate? More shiny stuff? Nurbal inverse raycasting blurmport rendering? I don't know.

It definitely had better ports of Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Samurai Shodown, that's for damn sure!

Interesting statistic Cerny gave out and something I’ve been asking, what’s the performance/resolution graphics settings ratio people use.

75% use performance for 60fps, so shove that up your arses devs, it’s overwhelming F you to 30fps.

It's exactly what was expected. That was an awful reveal for a system with an awful price point and a small target audience. A system for a battle Microsoft never turned up for.

The system actively makes thr strong case for no need for PS6 this side of the 2030's. The visual comparison was damning, highlighting small differences in years old titles which will excite no-one and immediately invite the spectres of what more demanding titles will barely be able to nudge the difference up by.

Clue Sony. If 75% of gamers are choosing Performance, the hint is that they don't actually care enough in the first place about the visual increase to splurge £700+ on it.

The brand will help it but Switch 2 is going to absolutely wipe attention away from this thing.

"Ooh, PS5 sounds fancy! PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution? AI thingamajig? I wonder how much it costs?"

This really is the worst generation I've come across.

Absolutely right, yeah. There were no PS4 Pro exclusives. I'd be very confident in saying there won't be any PS5 Pro exclusives either.

Since you're new to PS5, something to know about this gen is that it's very common for games to offer 'Quality' and 'Performance' modes you can choose between. Quality is usually roughly 4K resolution and 30fps. Performance is roughly 1440p resolution and 60fps.

Basically the PS5 Pro lets you run at Quality mode resolution but with Performance framerate.

Honestly the delta between the two modes in terms of visual fidelity is really pretty thin (which is why 75% of players choose Performance, apparently, according to Cerny during the unveiling).

I think this model is really not going to sell well. It's really offering very, very little for a massive uplift in cost.

                              GTA6 60fps mode only playable on PS5Pro.

Wow that price. AUD $1,350 if I want a disk drive as well - for comparison the current disk version is AUD $795

I must admit though I am very tempted. I did hear somewhere that there are improvements to PSVR2 so doubly tempted. Though it is some serious bloody wedge.

Yes here from the CNET article:

As CNET's resident VR expert, I'm curious what the PS5 Pro can do for the PlayStation VR 2, although Sony's support for the headset has been underwhelming lately. Cerny said the Pro will allow higher-resolution games on the PSVR 2 thanks to the GPU boost and eventually a tuning of Sony's AI upscaling that will work with all VR games. No specific PSVR 2 upgraded games have been announced yet, and I wonder what those improvements would even feel like. (I mentioned to Cerny and Nishino that I'd still love to see original PSVR games like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, which are incompatible with PSVR 2, to get ports that still haven't happened yet. I didn't get a response to that comment.)
