It's the new version of the iPod, using the "clickwheel" from the iPod mini.

2nd Gen iPods have the 4 buttons around the scroll wheel. They have flat corners on the face. The light is white. 1st gen iPods had a rotating scroll wheel. 2nd gen introduced the touch sensitivity.

3rd gen has the 4 round buttons at the top, all corners are rounded and the light is blue. The buttons light up orange.

These new ones have the 4 buttons under the scrollwheel. They click softly like buttons, similar to a flat D-pad on a control pad.

Ah I see. Thanks dude. When are the new ones out? Are they going to be much more expensive then the 3rd gen?

I've found a 20gig 3rd gen, brand new for $375. Is that a good price?

      Thanks for the info FIrsty.

They're announced tomorrow, so won't be long at all. Could even be tomorrow.
They're going to be cheaper. Each new iPod generation has seen prices go down. Seems i was wrong about 60GB. It appears that 15GB has been axed, with the new models being offered in 20GB and 40GB flavours. Price wise, the 40GB model will be $399, and the 20GB model will be $299. THat's a $100 reduction on each. So no, I don't think $375 for your 3rd gen iPod is such a great deal. Wait a short while.

Man, you're star. I'll definately go for the new generation then, especially if it's going to be like almost 100$ cheaper. Thanks alot. Any ideas on some websites that will be selling the new 4th generation ones?

You're not in the US at the minute are you boss?

Like I said, I really need the Ipod before I go away in 3 weeks. Could I get it before then do you reckon?

Well, it's settled. New 4th Gen Ipod, $299 plus postage. Just got to find somewhere now.

End of August will probably be my next trip. Too late I guess. But I think I'll pick one up!!!

Ah ok. Do you know of anywhere that I could get one? They don't seem to be in the Apple website to buy.

I've found someone that might be able to get me one, but he'd need to order off the apple website.

Right, i've bought a mini Ipod for ?150 now in Silver. When I come back from holiday, i'll sell it to my auntie and buy a 4th gen 20gig Ipod.

4th Gen has now been released, is up on apples site!

?275 for a 40gb one if you use the education store!

Ordering one now, better battery life is definitely worth it.

It looks like its a slightly different, whiter plastic?

Looks good though, although I prefer the 3rd gen buttons beneath the screen rather than the clicker wheel. Ive only had my 20gig 3rd gen iPod since december, so Im not bothered about getting another. Currently got 3,000 songs and have room for another 3,500 or so.

Going to order the 20gig one, with a dock for ?225 delivered. Cheers for the tips Unlighty!

I've got no need for a 40gig one, so i'll stick with this one and save myself ?50.

                        ?213 for a 40gig model is excellent.

Stupid question, but when you plug the ipod into the mains using the ac adaptor provided, can you play music indefinitely through separate speakers, so that the rechargeable battery built into it isn't used?
