    I certainly doubt it.

A separate would be better anyway, something like the Oppo or something that used DVI/HDMI.

Is it worth buying one though? Especially with HD-DVD/Blue Ray around the bend?

There is a LG dvd player which upscales to 1080i/720p via HDMI AND component for only $250 Australian.

Cheap as chips, but is it any good?

Yeah, the 360 will upscale DVDs, it's in all the spec sheets and whatnot.

For those with the samsung lcd and the MS high Def pack.

Amped 2 looks awsome but the rest look very blocky, all the edges look rough. What am i doing wrong?

Depends how much you watch DVD's really. The difference isn't night and day, as it's obviously not adding data to the picture or anything... it's just sending the picture pre-upscaled to a resolution the TV handles much better, meaning you don't get any of the nasty artifacts caused by the TV having to deinterlace and upscale.
Plus it gets sent via HDMI/DVI, so better =P

I swear by my Oppo, but then again, I watch more anime DVD's than I do games, so I'm kinda fussy. No point if you just watch a film at the weekend or something.

                  Chaps,

I've been reading this thread with interest, however I have one question which I hope someone will be able to answer.

Space is at a premium for me, and basically I want a High Def TV that can handle both Xbox360 and PC (through DVI-D) and provide good image quality through both.

Has anyone tried any 26" (or lower) which works well with a PC DVI-D?

                  Thanks

Many people assume it is the same as DVI - this is incorrect. It just supports the format DVI uses (4-4-4 RGB), along with other YUV-based ones.
It's also a completely digital connection, unlike VGA and Component which are analogue.
HDMI still isn't THE standard sadly. If you read some of the dedicated AV forums, you find that many people with both connections find component to be better.

I know that on paper this shouldn't be, especially if using a digital display like LCDs. The problem is that HDMI doesn't take the natural digital source and carry it unaltered to the display device. There is still a conversion process going on, and a digital to digital conversion isn't necessarily any better than digital to analogue.

I believe that as time goes on, HDMI will impove as the conversion process gets better, but at the moment the only thing going for it is the ability to DRM the output.

                          That's interesting man, I didn't know this.

All the same, I recommend anyone purchasing a new LCD/Plasma or something still make sure they have one on their set (and that it's HDCP compliant), as Blu-Ray/HD-DVD may still require it.

Ah, games without a 720p option, then. That'll be the problem. Those games are running at 480p instead, so they're bound to look blockier than Amped 2's 720p.

Aye. Try Line of Contact, Soul Calibur 2, MX vs ATV or the later Tony Hawks games that support 720p.

Or you could try Atari Arcade Collection. Pong in 1080i. Woohoo!!!

Yeah I totally agree. For displaying from a PC, a digital connection makes a big difference.

ok just bought an upscaling dvd player. However i am only at the moment running it through component cables. It has been set to 720p. And there is not that much of a difference if any. Will it only upscale through HDMI? It is a Toshiba SD-ESE. Also if my tellie had tearing, would i get it through component when the DVD player is set to 720p?

                                Thanks!
