Samsung's are just cheap and cheerful, offering decent quality at a decent price, and they can be credited for driving the price of HD LCD screens down this year by offering the competition something to try and match. They've done much this year.

But because the competitors are driving their own prices down to compete with Samsung, there are now plenty of higher quality screens for similar prices.

I'm just hoping Samsung's relationship with Play doesn't equate to me being given the same television I sent back. The numerous defective pixels and caught smudge mark really detract the attention on any surface that isn't dark or black, and impact on the screen's quality.

I hope things don't turn out like I expect them to.

Just send it back for a refund.

I already have sent it back to be replaced. I like the Samsung from what I've seen, bar the defects I've experienced.

Though it seems pot luck if I'll actually get one that doesn't have anything wrong with it.

I have the Sharp LC-26GA6E, and in my opinion its a great TV. Got my 360 yesterday (just) and the picture quality is fantastic, no blur or ghosting at all.

You can pick one up online for about ?700-800 (my local comet are selling it for over ?1000!!)

I would go for one of these or the LG mentioned on this thread.

Here's a wierd thing - I always assumed the LG 26LX2R could not do 50Hz through VGA. However, I have my 360 connected using Component to my VD-Z3 Component-to-VGA transcoder, and playing Halo in 720p @ 50Hz, works fine! Also worked with 576p @ 50Hz.

Looks like the LG takes 50Hz through VGA then, that's a rare thing!

Just about all tv based displays will accept 50hz over VGA, it is whether they display them at 50 is the thing, alot convert it back to 60Hz though.

                The 360 is 720p/60 anyway.

Recommendations please guys. There seems to be 3 or 4 good models around with varying price tags up to the ?800 Sony Bravia from Play.

                  TIA
Ordered a Sony 26" Bravia from Play.com, hopefully they will get stock in soon.
                  Many thanks for the recommendations.

                  No...Wait..

                    Ha!

Well i just assumed my set didn't accept 50Hz through VGA =P Great that it can though, as it means I can use an X-RGB2 on my PS2. Gotta go find one now!

I am intrigued by the possibilty of 50hz via VGA on the LG's.

Somebody must have an X-RGB that they can test with a news channel that has a ticker at the bottom. If there is no judder it would be safe to say that the TV displays it at 50hz.
May have to get an LG if thats the case!!!

Nice TV, but I'd think twice about ordering it from play.com If you want to get it, I'd recommend someone located in mainland UK.

My play.com TV came really quickly, ordered it on a Wednesday night and it arrived on the Friday so can't complain.

On the other hand I haven't ever had to send anything back so I can't comment there.

I've sent a Samsung LCD (26") with a faulty screen back to Play to be replaced. Their customer service/emailing have been prompt, but I've heard no word back to say they've since it was sent on Thursday. I'll start getting worried if I haven't heard anything in the middle of next week.

I was told on the phone that it could be up to Feburary until I get a replacement, which I wasn't very impressed with but (perhaps foolishly) agreed to. I can only guess that this perhaps has something to do with the demand and current stock levels for the Samsung at the moment.

Oh yeah, and big electrical items sent back to Play are collected and processed on the mainland UK. You don't have to send them back to Jersey as it mentions on the site for most items.
