There has been an admin botch at the Optoma factory and as a result I won't be seeing my projector until Wednesday earliest. I paid ?20 last Wednesday for next day courier delivery too.

Just after seeing a bit of the Gadget Show and there HDTV feature. So HDTV broadcasted content won't be standard until 2012. If this is the case it looks like i can wait after all. Maybe then we'll have an HDMI port that can handle 1080P.

After suffering ghosting (signal echoing, not movement smearing) and a huge, big smudge mark covering half of the entire top end of the screen underneath it on my LG, I think I'll be going for that if it's really ?350, 32" and HD Ready.

I really miss the clarity CRT provides in both image and colour richness - I'm just not convinced by LCD when it comes to processing current generation games at an acceptable level (it always looks horribly blocky).

That sounds amazing for the price.

Are you sure the price isn't a misprint? I'd imagine it'd be over ?500. Anything below and I'm so there.

Companies may be trying to phase CRT out, but from what I've experienced of the alternatives (only two televisions admittedly) I'm not convinced.

It might accept 720p and 1080i, but I bet it doesn't output true HD resolutions, most likely just 1080i.

That Samsung is cute, but if it's anything like their previous attempts at slim line CRTs it'll be a nightmare of image convergence and calibration.

I'm still mulling various TV choices myself. The impending release of Oblivion has kind of left me wanting something sooner rather than later.

Evil Boris - I was massively impressed with 1080i on the 360 - only the model of the LG I'm using, and it's inability to accept the signal without spot flickering (not interlaced flickering) made me move over to VGA. It'd also solve the dead pixel, colour problem.

Every CRT I've had has been reliable and done what it's supposed to do. One LCD TFT I've owned (a PC monitor) is great (no speakers so non-usable for console gaming), but the two HDTVs I've used (the most popular 26" LG and Samsung models) have been disappointing.

If HDTV CRTs are available at an affordable (and accessible, i.e. no international shipping) level, I'll be jumping over the first chance I get. Yes, I'm aware JVC have a CRT HDTV on the market, but from what I gather it suffers from banding when using RGB.

Angry The Clown - Same here. The smudge mark on the LG is really visible on bright backgrounds, meaning it's going to piss all over Oblivion if I use it. I'm half-tempted to go back to my trusty 28" SDTV at RGB when playing that game, as it's solid (in terms of no defects/ghosting/trapped dust) and the colours are lovely in comparison.

One thing I've said to myself is that I don't want to buy a 360 and not be able to enjoy the fruits of its HD output from the moment I take it out of the box. Plus if I got one to use with my ageing interlaced Sony CRT it'd mean forking out some extortionate amount for a 360 rgb cable that would be redundant to me when I ultimately got an HD Ready display.

I'm leaning toward plasmas again, specifically Panasonic's HD8 panel which has come down a few hundred in price since it's release last Autumn. Panasonic have a new VIERA model out now as well, however I'm waiting to see if suffers the same niggles the 2005 sets had. If they don't then I'd possibly consider taking one of the new VIERAs (PX60 or forthcoming PX600) over the HD8 and substituting absolute image control for a display that can work more practically as a multi-purpose television.

I'm still quite curious to see the new Sony LCDs Lyris mentioned to be coming out in a month or two. I'm possibly making May my deadline to set myself up with a new set.

I'd definitely be keeping an eye out for convergence issues as my current TV has a few minor ones. This new TV would have to be perfect in that regard or I'd just go with something like LCD or rear-pro instead. Is it possible to get a progressive image out of CRT?

I pretty sure April/May is when they're due. Sony only just issued the press release about the new ones - and the 1080p Bravia X Range - yesterday despite the fact the news had been online for weeks now. I looked at the existing ones again today. I just can?t fault the general design of the Bravia LCDs at all. Very swish.

I saw the Panasonic PX60 plasma today. It's really rather decent indeed, not nearly as ugly as the pictures of the set might have one believe. The internal DVB feed in John Lewis was good, perhaps the best I had seen from an internal DVB tuner on a consumer aimed 1024x768 display. Quite smooth, no sign of blocking of fuzziness. Again, if it suffers all the processing faults (many of which Panasonic deemed "features") of the 2005 VIERAs I'll have to strike it off the list and face the fact that I really, really want that SXRD set in September ? but damned if I?d know where to put such a beast.

Almost always, I have an old Iiyama Vision Master Pro monitor from the mid 90s that shows interlaced video over VGA. If you're on Windows, go to your display properties, Settings tab, Advanced, Monitor Tab, Uncheck "Hide Modes" and you might be surprised.
