I used to play my cube games through it and all of my Xbox games through it. It looked lovely at the time. It doesn't handle 720p and 1080i quite as well though

Thanks Lyris. Would i likely get a better picture on all my other PS2 games through RGB scart or Component? Would ideally like to leave my PS2 hooked up via Component but not if a lot of the games aren't going to look as good as if i was running them through a good RGB lead..

If the TV's made properly then RGB SCART and Interlaced Component should look the same. On a new TV they will probably be passed into the video processor chip in the same way so will look identical.

I think I've finally figured out how to get some decent photos of this set with my camera now, but before I try and get some more, how does this look?

Normally I wouldn't post such high-resolution photos, as you often see image processing artefacts that you don't where you normally sit, or things that you wouldn't when it's in motion, but that looks pretty good here at least.

              Hi andrew

how much PQ difference is there between the WLT66 and the newer WLT68's? Im thinking of grabbing a 32" for the bedroom and the '66s are going for less than ?700 in most places now.

1080p is pointless then, on my 37" Sharp, I had to be around 5ft away to actually resolve 1080p, and I have great eyesight. At 9ft, you would need a 71" TV to see 1080p, and 50" to fully resolve 720p, so anything 50" and smaller wouldn't see any sort of improvement from being 1080p native.

Hmm, well the BRAVIAs certainly do better with black levels in a dark room, although not significantly.

2x HDMI rules out the cheaper BRAVIAs, so you're then stuck with WCG-CCFL, which doesn't look very good in my opinion, but it seems to be a love/hate thing. You really need to demo this somewhere with a source you know before you buy a set using it.

There's no way 1080p would be usable as a monitor at that kind of distance, and most 720p sets use VGA for 1:1 mapping - what are you planning on using the PC for?

Well, most people seem to think the BRAVIA's speakers are pretty poor, and Toshiba teamed up with Onkyo for the WLT68's but I don't really rate them. (but it's been a long time since I actually used TV speakers, so for all I know they could be some of the best there is)

While not being 1080p native, the WLT68 will do 1080p over Component and HDMI, although honestly you're not going to see the difference between 1080p and 720p at that sort of distance. Even up close many people have a hard time seeing the difference. As a monitor, the lower resolution is actually better, as everything will be too small on the BRAVIA.

My recommendation would be the 42WLT68, as it's got 3x HDMI, great colour reproduction and 100Hz mode, which definitely makes a difference to image sharpness with motion.

It's also quite a bit cheaper than the BRAVIA, so you would be able to buy a surround kit (my recommendation for gaming would be the Sony HT-SS1000 for price/performance) and Toshiba have those great "floating" glass stands.
thanks for the info mate, i'll go for that Toshiba at the mo

I hear the PQ difference (as well as the extra HDMIs, better speakers, Scart problems fixed, sexier aesthetics) is significantly better and imo would justify the extra spend (From what i've read, and seen demonstartions of myself). Bear in mind i got my 32WLT for ?899 delivered by John Lewis meaning it comes with a five year warranty too. They price matched Empire Direct Bradford fyi, so not that much more than the WLT66

Wow, didnt realise I could get the '68 for that much. I think I probably would go for it in that case. Might even try and stretch my budget to 37".

I was actually gonna go for THIS WHITE SAMMY originally. Are they really so good that MS chose them as screens for their demo pods?

Well Empire now have the 37" for ?1150, so you should be able to match that too, and get a real bargain. http://empiredirect.co.uk/content/pr...OS-37WLT68.htm

So would you also agree that the 68's are better PQ wise than the 66's and do they piss all over the sammys as mentioned in my previous post?

                        Comment

Well I've not seen the 66 in person, but I'm sure it is an improvement. Microsoft didn't choose them for the demo pods because they were good displays, they chose them because they struck a deal with Samsung to get them cheap. I'd say the Tosh will definitely be better.

Microsoft and Samsung are business partners... the screen being acceptable for use is probably an afterthought.

Ditto for Sony and Sky HD.

It coincided with all the product placement for Samsung in Perfect Dark too
