Reasons to own a PS3, game wise?

I dont think there is any reason to own as PS3 at the moment Game wise. I have secured one but that was in anticapation of the games that will follow in quite a few months down the line and the fact it was a RRP, 20gb resitence and hdmi = $650 dollars which is less than 350quid (thought it was $750 i was paying before as i thought my ma had secured a 60gb) plus as my ma is bringing it back it wont cost anything in terms of postage and customs.

I have not seen a running playstation 3 for myself so cant comment on gamplay but i have seen footage of games on 1up etc etc and ive not been impressed one bit. Thank **** ive got a ton of 360 games to play when i get back and im under no illusions it will be up to the 360 and Wii to provide my gaming goodness for the rest of 2006!

Venom, just start some first play threads anyway & don't worry about conflicting opinions. I'd like to know more about the launch games (especially the golf game which nobody seems to have mentioned).

Also, it would provide a wonderful break from all the 'what stepdown do I need' & 'I ordered a console 10 minutes ago & it's not here yet' posts that are in abundance at the mo

THIS is what's bugging me the most at the moment - attempts to label people trolls. It was Marty who suggested I start a thread with the Q's and I would have done but you already responded to them and I was seeking further clarification.

Very defensive stance from all you PS3 owners - Don't label me a troll I've been more than damning of Nintendo/Microsoft when they're earned it (even Sega ) so I'm not singling out Sony. I owned both PS1 & 2 at launch (and I mean Jap import launch not domestic). Just this time they've ripped the piss too far and it's blatantly obvious their heads are up their arses.

Plus other people have bothered to start first play threads and you'll note they are not overrun with people saying "oh it's ****" without having played it.

Let's all chill out a little. 8)

My questions have been answered, to be fair. general consensus is that there isn't much reason for ME PERSONALLY to buy one of these new fangles thangs until some decent gear comes out on it. It has the third party support so that is only a matter of time. Come March I will prolly score me a nice Japanese one and enjoy all of the goodness that is sure to follow, a la PS2/PS1 before it.

Fair comments from Yosh from what I can see. A little unfair to compare the online functions as MS have had the longest to nail this. Being innovative they could see this was a defining element in the evolution of gaming. Given the love of Live they were spot on.

As the PS3 and 360 are pretty close spec wise it is coming to come down to specific titles and other small factors to make one or the other the must have console. There is a general acceptance that there are some great titles coming for the PS3, the fact remains those titles are not here yet. When they launch and deliver (GOW...) is when the thread title can really be addressed.

I'm gonna sit tight for a few months and see what coming in the near future. Many of the exclusive games that have been banded about won't be out for a long time ie FFXIII.

So if i were you sit on your money till March and wait until there's at least 3-4 must haves, then buy one.

Most machines don't have enough decent games to warrant an investment for at least the first year. There's no shame in admitting that. With notably few exceptions, most launch titles are quick-and-dirty cash-in jobs, rushed out by the big publishers in the full knowledge that choice will be slim and they'll clean up by default. How many people would have bought Perfect Dark Zero if it wasn't a launch title for instance?

The onnly reason for me to own a Ps3 is MGS4 and we won't see that for at least another year. I'm not forking out stupid money to play high res flatout and the lastest version of singstar.

I thought the same about Motorstorm at first, until I played it... I'm hooked on the demo!

played it the other day on a demo pod and I thought it was dull dull dull. I did take over a paused game so Im not sure if it was on easy or something but it didnt impress me at all. The visuals were ok but not mindblowing either and thats running on the shiny demo panel

I can understand what people are saying, and if I wasnt insane i'd wait to purchase a PS3.

None-the-less I have one now, and im enjoying every minute of Ridge and Resistance - they feel solid and fun.

Nobody is avoiding the questions, and there's nothing wrong with asking them. You were labelled a troll and hence had posts deleted because you were telling people they should have spent their money on an Xbox360 instead of a PS3 and LCD TV - that's trolling - and such post will be removed from threads, whoever posts them. If you want to know the answers to your questions, why don't you just start a thread on it? I'll even give you a decent thread title to help "Questions I have about the PS3".

Atm, I don't think there's much around game wise to justify the cost of the unit, especially if you have an Xbox360 already, but this will certainly change over the next 6-12 months. The fact that you can run Linux on the machine to open up a world of emulation and homebrew also bodes well for the machine ( and has surprised me that Sony made the system so open ).

Amen to that, you are anything but a troll and the over defensiveness from owners on the board is just beyond belief.Even the worldwide gaming press has been hugely damning of the machine.
