Disco! That's why I've been trying to drag these threads back on topic.

Whilst lack of games is an understandable reason for not grabbing one, I can honestly say the only thing currently stopping me from checking out on NCSX is the pricetag.

We know there will be great games, and the thrill of buying new hardware cant be beaten. Even if the game library doesnt change over the coming months, if the price gets dropped plenty of peeps like me will be jumping on the bandwagon Im sure.

/crosses fingers for price drop before xmas/
The price tag is definitely a big stickly for me too - but something that's gotten me itching ( and I reckon a few people will say wtf? ) is the fact the machine can run Linux. Now, I had Linux running on my Xbox too ( it's still installed actually ) and have barely used it - but it's the geek in me bursting out

But PS3 Linux doesn't require a modification to the machine like on the XB, so that opens up a world of possibilities. If the machine works as a proper media player, like a chipped XB does but the 360 really doesn't, then I'd jump to get one. HD content from a mass media drive, without having to convert to a proprietary format (WMV) or work out the streaming of non-MS codecs, would be great. DivX playback, every codec working on one super powerful machine, I like the sound of that.

Of course if MS opened up a little and let you run those codecs on the 360 I'd be even happier

Aye - that's what interests me so much, yes I could just install it on my PC I know - but I've done that already

the Linux capabilities have me interested too. Might make it a usable media centre replacement for the XBox, but then there's the price...

Thinking about it more the Linux factor is a pull, but do I really need another Linux box? Also there are plenty of things the PS3 is lacking to make it a viable media centre compared to a dedicated Linux Media Centre box. There's definately a gap in the market for an all singing all dancing under tele box that does it all, but the PS3 doesn't quite fit the bill.

I must admit Marty, the Linux has me slightly intrigued, but having experienced something similar on my iMac (being able to run windows too) its fun for the first few days, and then falls into obscurity fairly quickly. The vids ive seen showing linux on a ps3 look great though.

              Linux. Linux. Linux. Linux.
              Stick to the topic boy!

I am currently on the fence over whether or not to "Dive in" on UK release so would love to hear some game discussion rather than all this Linux stuff.

Any game impressions out there, or views on what will be nice for pick on launch?

DMC4 is a deep rooted love of mine so that and MGS are really all I am thinking about at the moment, any ideas on other possible pickups?

Yeah and when we're not doing linux on it we can leave it running when we go to work / shopping to help cure cancer apparently (folding@home).

It's incredible really - Remember when we were all ****-scared cos Saddam was going to strap PS2's to missiles to fly them to their destinations - Sony hardware man awesome.

But I think Seany was looking for people to tell him that there were loads of great games coming out that would justify him buying one and that doesn't seem to have happened after 98 (99 natch ) posts.

So he's probably got his answer then and this thread can be locked ?

There are games installed as part of the Linux distros - dunno if they support online play though - and MAME is running on it for PS3 - plus it means homebrew games ( = free )

Thats great... what about the retail games? Any news on these?

Am really interested on this side of things as its where I will spend most of my time and money with the machine so would be great to hear about that...

Then why not read through the full thread? There's room to talk about all aspects of the PS3 ... there seems to be a generally bad attitude across the forums at the moment, I'm expecting to see some improvement.

                            Sigh.

The Sony bashing continues I see.

Was only asking a question Marty, simmer.

I will have a look, do my research then hopefully make an informed opinion on my own then, since it seems quite difficult to simply get an answer to something without being met with uneeded aggrovation.

Apologies, but your sarcastic reply did nothing to help your cause; there's been plenty of discussion about the PS3 games in this thread, despite it being derailed a number of times.
