I've just picked up a CRT monitor for the DC and GG. I think it will be interesting to compare it to the BVM.

Anyway here's a couple of phone camera shots of the BVM being calibrated. Very straightforward process.

If anyone would like a loan of the auto setup probe for their BVM drop me a message. I have another probe for older BVM models which I bought in error. I'll get the model number and some info on it later on.

there is always flicker from the screen even when the screen is paused. it's just the way my mobile focus works . it's even worse with a CRT TV set .

The tv Models of yesteryear were so ugly werent they, i remember having a 36 inch CRT, took up half the room.

what is so wrong with pointing out the drawbacks of CRT . In a perfect world I'll be happy with a 50 inch CRT,but it wouldn't get through my double glazing front door, never mind the living room door/entrance. Framemeister is the perfect solution for HDMI sets .

Any thoughts on TVL resolution, PVM fans? My 800 liner has turned up dead, bless it, & while I will attempt a mend I've now got my eye on a local 20M2MDE (medical grade equivalent). This one has 600 lines & I'm guessing that might look better for 240p, thinner scanlines & all that..?

Uh, hard to say really. Both my KX-14CP1 and my PVM-20M4E have great images, just they're not as thick on the KX.

I so need to get a BVM to add to my collection. I have the Control Unit already, just waiting for a cheap display to come up missing the control unit. Looks great and that calibration tool looks trick!

A few more pics of the 20M4E

Is it dead as in no power? If the M2MDE is cheap pick it up see if the boards are compatible? Might be able to allow you fault find the problem on the 20M4E, assuming that's what it is.

Good thinking, yep no power & it is a 20M4E. The tube potentially survived transit but it's taken a drop onto the front corner where power switch is. Could be as simple as that switch not connecting, maybe. Cracking pics btw!

How impractical CRT are . ... I'm used to big displays now and even playing the Saturn on the 37 CRT seems like a bit of a comedown to playing through Frame on the 50 LCD, never mind on my 14 CRT . Not only do LCD's look so much better they are so much easier to replace move around , they are just far better than the old huge bulky heavy CRT's . CRT are such huge heavy things that most people selling them over 21 inch will only offer collection .

The way some of the retro bible basher's talk it's like we've never grown up with the classic consoles or owning a CRT , when most of us have and well all know too well the plus and minus points of those technologies .

The tv Models of yesteryear were so ugly werent they, i remember having a 36 inch CRT, took up half the room
Tell me about it .. I still have my Philips 37 Match line CRT and its a monster TV that needed a new stand to put in on and weighs a ton . Its a ace TV and back in the day allowed me to have Dolby Surround sound with no amp (which was ace with the 3DO back in the 90's) but I much rather LCD myself .

That said I do miss the old classic teletext services of the old days with advent calendar countdown and the pop up match scores lol

Never understood the mentality of needing a big screen. I always prefer to get pixel density over a larger screen. Probably just me though...

Could be just you . That was was of the best things about the Arcades back in the day the big screens, compared to playing it on your 14/21 inch TV in the bedroom.
