Snes all the way. I love the megadrive as well for sonic 2, streets of rage 2, golden axe, but the snes had these:

        Area 88
        Street fighter 2
        Final fight
        Mario Kart
        Mario World
        Yoshi's story
        Batman returns
        Gradius 3
        Turtles Tourny Fighters
        Super Ghouls n Ghosts
        Super castlevania
        Mario all stars
        Super metroid
        Super punch out
        Metal Marines
        F-zero
        Zelda
        Secret of Mana
        Pilotwings

No question, it's the Mega Drive for me.

So many happy memories, play time and good will during that fantastic era.

Oh good not this again .

I have to say the SNES. Yes the MD kicked the Snes ass for sheer number of great games , never mind sports or shooters . But NCL and konami (pains me to say that) were just at an all time high , and almost no corp could come close . NCL were just perfection inthe Snes era , there no other words for it .

While Revenge, and Ghost N Ghouls came close, the MD or SEGA just didn't have a answer to gaming perfection that was Mario IV (along with Exhumed the most perfect game I've played) , F-Zero, Pioltwing or Super Metroid, and then Konami just took the piss with POP (still the best vesion) and the like of Castlevania IV and Contra III , for me both games the best in thier Respective series too

                    .
The Snes D-pad like every NCl d-pad is poor, the Mega Drive 6 button pad is the best gaming pad there's ever been , thats not even up for debate , I only wish all console pads had the D=pad and classic ABC button layout of the MD pad

And as for better effects , I recommend you go and play Adventures of Batman and Robin , Red Zone or the likes of Thunder Force IV all of which had effects the Snes could only dream of matching

As far as D-pads go I think the dualshock 2 is by far the best in existance. I won't use anything else for fighting games.

I actually found the original (non-dual shock) PS1 pad to have the best D-pad of all the PS pads. Still used it for Pro Evo right up until this year as it was much more responsive than the Dualshock 1 and 2.

On topic: Megadrive for me. It just seemed so much more edgy and exciting than the SNES to me as a child, even though I never owned either of them myself. I've never really been interested in Nintendo's games though, save handhelds, whereas Sega

Hmm can't work out how to vote in the polls (or something is wrong and it wont let me) But I'd easily chose SNES with the superior Street Fighter 2, and many awesome games like Zelda, Mario world, mario kart, mario allstars, super metroid, tonnes of great RPGs, yoshi's island, sim city, donkey kong country etc. The megadrive was good too but not at SNES levels of brilliance

I've always preferred the SNES, mainly for the better quality audio it produced compared to the Megadrive. Soundtrack and effects have always been a big decider on whether I bother with a game beyond the initial stages, still stands true today. Of course, gameplay does factor in too, but I just find that good audio makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable. As for graphics... not that fussed.

Oh, and the SNES controller is the best controller ever made in my opinion

This is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. The MD was my first import console and the first one I bought with my own cash. However, the quality of the snes games and absolute joy it gave me means I have to go with the Snes. Strangely though, I no longer own a snes but do have an import megadrive still and I am slowly rebuying all those 2-d shoot em ups I loved as kid.

This IS a tough one.. But I like em BOTH!! AArghh!!! Too.. hard to choose!!!!

..OK!! Im gonna say MD purely for the fact that I got it first and it was my second EVER console and I got it when it was in its prime. (1994) Saying that however, I probably would have said SNES if I had gotten that first.

But seriously I think they're both as good as eachother.. I mean they truely do represent THE GOLDEN ERA OF GAMING. The Dreamcast era coming a close second.. NO amount of halo 3 or tekken 5 will EVER come close to sonic 2, mario allstars, DK Country.. Ah fond fond memories
