The Amiga has tons of games with euro techno tunes. Was all to do with the times and the fact that the machine was euro focused. I didn't mind some of it, but.. most of it was naff.

Bio Metal was ruined in the west by having techno music. Listen to the Japanese version and hear how much better it is.

Well CLItris features the very 2 Unlimited song you were singing!

I should have played that back in the day, would have been impressed. I don't like techno at all these days. When it comes to game music, I like it to feel like it's made for the game, rather than thrown in and doesn't really suit the atmosphere.

A great game has to have really likeable music. All my favourites have tunes I can instantly remember and hum.

This is a game that I've never really liked, but.. as a demonstration of Mode7, it's pretty impressive. It's doing things with the Mode7 environment that wasn't seen in F-Zero: flames on the ground, flames looping over the track, ripples etc... There is a lot going on as you fly through the levels, but.. it's all very basic and not very thrilling. Like a Mode7 Space Harrier, but.. definitely not a patch on that great game. The music is quite good - and overall it's worth a go.

It all depends. The US version already has a wide cartridge slot but is ugly as f*ck. You might need to mod a standard RGB SCART cable too:

Personally I prefer the look of the SFC/PAL SNES and so long as the slot widening is a neat job (Chaoticjelly did mine for a tenner) it doesn't look too weird.

I would always plump for a PAL SNES with a 50hz/60hz switch if you live in PAL territory as unfortunately quite a few PAL games only run at 50hz. Obviously if you only intend on buying NTSC games this is a moot point. Edit: you could always add a 50hz/60hz switch to an NTSC model I suppose.

As for region locking, the US SNES and SFC use the same region lockout chip whereas the PAL chip is different. Therefore it all comes down to which version of Super Mario RPG you have or want to have - for the SFC/US version either a SFC or US SNES will do the trick but for the PAL version only a PAL console will work.

Bottom line is there is no definitive setup!

EDIT: Don't go for a NES 2 or SFC Jnr as they need modification to output RGB.

Just to put a different spin on this I love the look of the US machine and I prefer it. It does seem I'm in the minority with my opinion though.

I prefer the old breeze block too ... always had a soft spot for it.

I have actually chosen the US SNES twice. Back in 91, when I was first bought the machine, I had a choice between Japanese & American, and I chose the American SNES because I really liked the way it looks. Then.. a few years ago, I bought another US machine, after losing my SuperFamicom.

I did use a SuperFamicom for a while. I like both designs, but.. the US version appeals to me the most. A lot of people act like the US machine is disgusting, but.. I love it.

We should do a poll on the different models of SNES. Anyone know how to post polls on this forum?

these days I'm into SNES, too. currently playing Turrican, Rock'n'Roll Racing, King of Dragons, but I'm especially fond of Ninja Warriors, great game.

I plan to get Batman Returns, Donkey Kong Country 2 and Sky Blazer in the next days.

Good choices! How is Ninja Warriors compared to the first one? I'm very keen to get a copy of it for my Snes as I love the first one.

well, I really loved the first one, and this one doesn't disappointed me. its only fault is that it's single player only. but you have three charachters with different strenghts, more moves, long levels with lots of enemies waiting only to being beaten by you.
only one advice: don't get the PAL versione (the one I have, unfortunately) as it's missing one enemy kind: kunoichi were replaced by a pink variant of the yellow dressed short guy with claws... I plan to get a NTSC version soon or later...

Sorry, favourite SNES game that no-one else seems to like. I got the US version of the original in cash converters back in the day (like right after it was out). Since then I've played supesonic to death on my pc, xbox, GP32 and PSP. Never gets old.

I think I'll send a threatening email to KOEI. REMAKE OR DIE. Stong enough?

There's a prequel to SNES Ninja Warriors Again?

Aye, just your bog standard Ninja Warriors. Not on the Snes though. You can get it on the old 8 and 16 bit computers, Arcade and PC Engine.
