Saw this in 2D. Was pretty good, better than the standalone films.

      A couple of things:

Why did Hulk go crazy at Black Widow on the helicarrier and then later on he's fine with her?

      Also,

everybody except Thor were humans and I'm pretty sure this was the first interaction with aliens, but nobody seems remotely phased by that idea. I know they're teamed up with an Asgardian, but surely aliens is a totally different concept.

It just seems like they roll with it without ever questioning what's happening.

Not a complaint, just some post-viewing musings! At least I'm still thinking about it a few days later!

I don't think the Alien thing is that valid. I mean, Thor is a god so..

Also yeah I'm not sure about Hulk. He seemed to act more like grey Hulk (to my understanding) later on, talking and having control n shiz. I don't know, I liked Hulk a lot though.

On the first issue, what I took from it was that...

Banner has basically controlled the Hulk to an extent by embracing him. He calls him the other guy but really they are more part of one now than they once were, effectively giving him some limited level of control over the Hulk, like the influence goes both ways. At the end, he changes to the Hulk by choice and goes willingly into action with no major problem - though the Hulk still does his thing and acts out (like punching Thor). The earlier situation is different because the control was lost and the Hulk appeared without Banner making that decision. Basically the Hulk broke out and threw a tantrum.

So the Hulk is like a toddler in a way. And Banner has more control when he keeps him close and they're together. The helicarrier situation was a quick high-stress situation that brought the Hulk out on his own. Rather than embrace him, that moment was a fight and the Hulk won. Banner stays angry day to day and so assumes control of it. When he loses control, the Hulk wins.

But that's just how I took it, mostly from Banner's somewhat cryptic explanation.

          On the other point, well,

we're in what is now a very superhero comic world, not like a Nolan Batman. We have a dude frozen from WW2, a weird energy cube, a god thing and not much of this seems like a major deal to the general populace so I guess aliens are just another part of that. I would imagine like Sheild got interested in superhumans, there is probably a department somewhere interested in the aliens thing that we just don't see.

Nope Nolan has said that he is completely against 3d and it won't be show in 3d, just standard IMAX, which the film contains an hour of footage specifically shot for.

Might be going to see this tonight. Is it worth viewing the 3D version or is 2D preferable?

General consensus on this thread is that the 3D adds very little because it was added in post-production, not filmed with 3D cameras like Avatar or Resident Evil: Afterlife.

I saw it in 2D and it was thrilling enough without the extra dimension, but I would also like to see it in 3D.

My screening was packed and I swear people were troughing the whole way through. I was looking forward to the characters shouting and fighting to drown out the noise of rustling sweet packets! I only noticed it a couple of times though, as I was pretty engrossed.

When I started watching it, I realised this film could make an AMAZING drinking game:
                  A vehicle crashes - take a drink
A vehicle explodes - take another drink
An Avenger verbally/physically attacks another Avenger - take a drink
Hulk makes you laugh - DOWN IT!

The effect is more pronounced when the film was filmed with 3D in mind and on 3D camera's... but I'd still say it adds nothing. If anything it detracts, the film is always more pleasurable when in glorious 2D as your attention isn't being diverted.

The 3D was great on it for a movie that wasn't shot in 3D, it was definitely the best 3D i have seen in a movie since Avatar.

1 of the big things about the 3D was it was much cleaner than previous films, the battle sequence at the start of Thor was completely blurry in 3D but Avengers was all very crisp and clean with some great depth and "jumpy out the screen" 3D in it.

                        Absolutely loved it.

Went to see the 2D version in the end. Really, really enjoyed it.

All the characters got decent screen time and The Hulk moments got a few genuine laughs from the crowd. I thought Downey Jr was superb - him and Evans were the glue that held the film together - and the face off with him and Thor was really well done. It's just a shame they felt the need to 'update' Captain America's costume.

Has me really excited to see what they come up with in a sequel.

Saw this on Wednesday. My mate wanted to see it in 2D as well(usually those gits always want 3D) but it was sold out. The next showing was 3D but we found out a nearby cinema had a 2D show at the same later time. Headed there and that was sold out, too! Had to see it in 3D in the end because I didn't want to wait any longer.

As for the film itself, I loved it. Just when I was starting to doubt whether Marvel's been making the most of its independence they release this and all is forgiven.

So many lines that just made me all tingly, like

I'm always angry! *HULK PUNCHES ALIEN SHIP IN FACE*

. Speaking of which, I really liked what Ruffalo did with Banner. He was a bit more nerdy than the ones before and a bit less serious which fitted in with the general tone of the film. First time he transformed I was practically leaning out of my seat. I did like Norton's Banner(not least because he looks quite a bit like Bixby, especially when they do the green eyes close-up, it's uncanny) but I do enjoy when different actors play the same character because each brings something different(like all the Batmen).

I've only seen Serenity not Firefly(although I plan to), but considering the alien stuff, I'm glad Joss Whedon did it. Those blurry/zoomy shots from Serenity were there and the guy knows how to shoot an alien invasion.

                            Question:

Is that Galaga joke some specific reference or is it just funny that he's playing Galaga on the sly?

I think it's just funny becuase hes playing it despite the fact that the world is in crisis.

How much did the Avengers themselves earn?

Robert Downey Jr - $50 million
                                Chris Evans - $2-3 million
                                Chris Hemsworth - $2-3 million
                                Jeremy Renner - $2-3 million
                                Mark Ruffalo - $2-3 million
                                Samuel L Jackson - $5-6 million
                                Scarlett Johansson - $5-6 million

I can only assume Scarlett is knocking off with one of the execs to warrant her getting more than the leads.
