Marvel seem to think people can't tell the difference between Captain America and Emma Peel

    Comment

I tried to watch Thor the other night.

Problem A: The sound levels seemed really off for me.
"Hi, I'm Thor! Let's fight the Ice Giants! Plot plot plot"
BOOM! LIGHTNING AND THUNDER WHILST FIGHTING!
"I should be the king of Viking town! Wah!"

Trying to watch a film where you're constantly changing the volume so you can hear what's being said but not wake a sleeping baby with the sound of raging gods is frustrating.

      Problem 2: I fell asleep.

Funnily enough, i've never seen the dark knight either, as batman begins did nothing for me both times i've seen it (Cinema and home) so didn't see the point. I'm probably wrong for not seeing that one, but at the time it felt like all the praise was more due to Heath Ledger popping his clogs. Anyway, Avengers looks great, hoping I won't be dissapointed.
Really shouldn't speak ill of the dead, but I agree with you there. Secondly, would he have even been nominated for a best supporting actor award had he not died? I got the impression the board decided that he should get it based on some sort of tribute as opposed to deserving it for his acting. Not saying that his acting was bad, more that the board probably wouldn't consider a comic book film star to be worthy, purely for appearing in a comic book film.

PS - when did it turn from The Avengers to Avengers Assemble? First I knew of it was when I looked at my cinema ticket!
I think it was very close to release. I didn't know either till someone in here said it.

In America it's still just called The Avengers, I'm not sure why we got a name change. Although it does mean that the series titles might work better together. I can actually see them now. Avengers Assemble. Avengers Disassemble. Avengers Reassemble.

It should've just been called the Avengers Initiative seeing as the term was referenced a million times during the bloody film.

Avengers Assemble sounds like the better name for it, but it should have been called that in all regions.

I'd imagine Assemble came about over here due to some legal challenge by whoever was responsible for the woeful 'The Avengers' movie based on the TV show.

We got a name change because of the 60's TV Show the Avengers (John Steed & Emma Peel) which was then a movie in the early 2000's (Uma Thurman, Eddie Izzard thing) & apparently UK people couldn't tell the difference.

Which in all fairness most older generation can't...anyone in work I mentioned Avengers too assumed it was a film of the TV show.
Only those into comics knew what I was referring too.

Still it sounds stupid & could have just been called "Marvel's The Avengers" or "Marvel Present's The Avengers"

To be fair, that pretty much sums up the Thor movie and unfortunately it gets rehashed again in this movie by using Loki again.

This is the after credits scene by the way for those of you who want to see it again, apologies for the quality

A lot of the press seemed to hail his portrayal of The Joker as being the greatest thing ever when I personally thought Jack Nicholson did just as good a job.

Back to topic though - The Avengers is awesome. If you can't enjoy it you must have an empty soul.

I actually didn't like TDK either, but I can't deny that the majority refer to it as a classic.

I think Nicholson was great for the time because non comic book fans hadnt seen the joker portrayed in that light even though graphic novels like the killing joke had been out at least a year before the movie. Ledgers performance took that a step further IMHO, although I reckon he would'nt have got the oscar if he'd have lived. Its a shame really as Im sure the joker would've featured in some way in the 3rd movie but nevermind.

Jack Nicholson defined The Joker. Health Ledger's Joker was less of a comic book, fantasy based psychopath and more of a perfectly ordinary human who became unhinged due, presumably to a troubled childhood, something that's very true to life. The one thing I wasn't keen on with the Nolan films is that they're too true to life. If I go and see a comic book film, I want to see a film that's clearly inspired by a comic book and not something like The Bourne Identity for example.

I know what you mean. Im so used to thinking of batman as part of the justice league but that could never happen in Nolans movies.

                              *edit*

Christ, could Cap Am wear those trousers any tighter? Its making my eyes water, he was camp in the movie but thats taking the mick!
