Talking at the Hero Complex Film Festival in Hollywood on Sunday (via /Film), actor Robert Downey Jr and director Jon Favreau revealed that the upcoming “Iron Man 3” faces some storytelling difficulties due to events that take place in “The Avengers”. While Shane Black takes over directing duties on the third “Iron Man”, Favreau is […]

Pym has been Marvel's whipping boy ever since he slapped his wife (which is a bit amusing as a good number of main characters have done something as bad or worse at some point), it's probably only a matter of time before there's an arc where he starts grooming little girls online.

First poster is out ahead of Comic Con, not keen myself, it's trying too hard to capture the comic styling and comes off as dull fan art. Some details are interesting though, Hawkeye, Widow, Thor and even Hulk seem largely similar to the previous appearances. Iron Man has reverted slightly back towards IM1 style and the Cap has a new suit that's closer to the comics though personally not as good as the solo films design. Nonetheless it's not a huge shake up and so far generally seems on track.

I don't think the one thy will use for the actual film will look anything like that one. It just looks like a load of stock art spliced together on photoshop so they can advertise the films appearance at comic con.

The proper poster will probably be even worse though and end up having a few unmasked stars on it to sell the film better. You know how they love the floating head effect on these things. They will no doubt have individual character posters too.

Looks like rather than a post credits scene its an Avengers teaser, I've already seen the poor quality one. Looks like every other bloody Marvel Studios film but I didnt expect anything else. Im sure I saw Loki walking with some troops in there as well. if he ends up being the main antagonist (or even minor one) then it'll be pants.

The vids a little muddy for visual quality but it looks very... iron man-esque. Seems to lean to the glossier side of the Marvel films. Based on Whedon and Marvel's output I've got faith it'll be a good film but I'm not gagging to see it.

                Can. Not. Wait.

Might be a daft question but why isn?t Spidey one of the Avengers?

Becuase Spiderman has never been one of the Avengers.

He does feature in a giant battle scene that takes place in the comic book that this film is loosley based on, but I think a different film company has the rights to the character so he wont be in an Avengers movie any time soon.

                    Shame.

I enjoyed watching that giant CG battle a few years ago where Spidey teamed up with Hulk and Ironman.

Spiderman franchise is Sonys, the other characters are paramount pictures...

No, the west coast avengers are a second group that is mostly made up of different people. They also never appeared in the Ultimate universe, which the current marvel movies are based on.

                            Oh! I see.

Well I've just started picking up the Panini Marvel Legends and Avengers Unconquered comics. I've started reading mid storyline, so I've no idea whats going on!

So what is the Ultimate universe, as opposed to the 'normal' one then?

The ultimate universe started about 10 years ago, its basicaly just an alternate take/retelling of the Marvel universe. While theres alot that has stayed the same, quite a few things are different and the stories, while often taken from the original universe, usualy conclude in an entirely different fashion, the Ultimate universe is generaly more adult in tone as well IMO. It was also designed to draw in new readers, such as yourself, so it might be an idea to look into picking some up as it means you can start from the begining with having 60 years of issues to read through.

There are really only 4 main comic series that are set in the ultimate world and those are Ultimate Spiderman, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four and The Ultimates (which is The Avengers).

Most of marvels other popular superheros, such as Iron Man, have had ultimate comics made about them as well, but above are the big ones that ran for at least a few years (for instance Ultimate Spiderman has had about 130 issues).

As I said yesterday the ultimate universe is also the universe which Marvel has chosen to base all its films in, even if that has been somewhat loosely in many respects.
