I know what you mean. I've always held their earlier stuff in higher reguard, unsure how much of that is nostalgia. I am glad they're not trying to churn out clones of previous stuff though just to maintain their fanbase. Those first few albums will always be around to listen to if I want to (just wish they'd play more from them when playing live.)

Admittedly, this first one does sound like everything else that Ian Broudie ever got his hands on but I don't think that's a bad thing.

The Coral - 'Magic & Medicine'

      Pizzicato 5 - 'This Year's Girl'

      Primal Scream - 'XTRMNTR'

top tip a few pages back for the Dangermouse Dark Night of the Soul album.

couple of brilliant tracks, the 1st in particular really reminds me of Roads by Portishead, which is no bad thing (and I usually hate the sound of the Flaming Lips singer)

Love that Disposable Heroes of Hipoprosy(sp?) track with William Burroughs. What's the fella called in that group? Went onto have a slightly successful solo career much revered by the alternative posse.

            Michael Franti? He did Spearhead.
            Right on, chin-stroking hiphop ahoy.

It's all about Iggy Pop for me, mate!

But yeah, the whole album is good. Can't see me shelling out ?80 for the accompanying art book though.

It would be fun to back in time and tell his younger self he'll be doing that. Or telling a teenage Johnny Rotten (and all his mates) that he'll be doing butter ads.

A work colleague has just lent me a stack of Nick Cave albums, so I'll be working my way through those shortly. Not sure where to start though.

Indeed. Maybe he needs the extra work.

At this very moment... "Porn Star Feeder" by Ak1200 & Danny Breaks & Gridlock, on the Autopsy album. Better than the version that was on MSX FM 99.1 (where I think it was just called Deep Porn)

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads got me to work today.

Edit - Hadn't read Geoff D's post. This album is a good listen.

Just playing my last.fm radio at the moment. For once, it's not actually being repetitive (it tends to play the same songs by the same artists all the time, annoyingly).

                              Midlife - a beginner's guide to Blur
I am hardly a beginner, I bought every album and single on day of release.
It is a well thought out collection and shows that not all memories are tainted with
                              nostalgia
