Gintama 53: rather amusing ep as per usual, even if it was one of the more serious eps, highlights include:

The part were he's reading the old guys porn, why the 2 are having that heart-warming family talk, and the long running 'i put them as burnable trash because they burn me up joke'

    as for xxxHolic:
was also surprised they dove right into one of the more serious / main arcs, thought they may have used an ep or 2 to re-introduce everything , obviously not, glad to have it back in animated form tho, as some sections work better animated like when yuko's poking fun at watanuki, and when watanuki goes all funny over himawari, also its very amusing to see the noodle people back in animated form

also i wonder if we'll get any crossovers with tsubasa, after the film and ova i think Production IG has the license (or whatever) over both of them now so it is a possibility

It's not so much the voice. That I can deal with. I mean I watched stuff like Himawari which had a similar sort of situation. It's just the delivery of some of the lines, which is why I'm slightly more optimistic than others about the whole thing even if I didn't sound like that from my last post.

Crystal Blaze, Nabari no Ou and Real Drive; few things on my radar having read a brief synopsis of each, hopefully each of them will get picked up for fansubbing.

Macross Frontier ep1, seems about 95% the same as the pilot. Found the "nyan nyan" advert hilarious Looking forward to next weeks. Oh and Veritech's are the best mech design...ever

...Im also ashamed to admit that I started to watch Avatar...and liked it

Zettai Karen Children ep 1: Hmmm. I can see they were trying to go for a more humourous take on a magical(or in this case espers) girl squad but really it didn't work. It ended up feeling a bit of mishmash of shows with a slight pedo feel to it. Also, bit annoying that one of the girls is a textbook tsundere.

Edit:Also, for an unknown group, deculture did pretty good with the subs as far as I could tell.

              Bus Gamer 1 & 2

You'd be forgiven for thinking this was some crazy anime about buses, but nope, it's about three acquaintances brought together by a black letter offering a lucrative opportunity to make some serious cash, by some faceless corporation.

The common denominator between these different characters was how they answered on the reply denoting why they need the money. Reluctantly, the three characters have to negoiate a game whereby they're mission is to either steal or protect a disc from the opposing side by any means necessary; the more matches they win, the more they earn.

Zettai Karen Children ep 1 - maybe I'm being completely oblivious and naive but I didn't really pick up on that pedo vibe. There's nothing in there that's any less inappropriate than some of the stuff in the average Nanoha episode. No problems with the character archetypes being portrayed either, if I did I'd be annoyed with the vast majority of anime characters. The comedy just didn't work for me though, but that seems to be running theme with a lot of recent anime comedies, even the weird attacks from the villain were handled much better in Inukami. For me it's a bit like the experience I have watching the average Hayate episode only difference being that I laughed at some of the stuff in Hayate at the beginning whereas here it just fell flat. I have no idea what it was, whether it was the comedic timing or if there were even any jokes in there that I was supposed to laugh at.... Just a very very average opening episode. I'll give it a few more episodes before deciding whether to put it on the backburner or drop it completely.

To be honest, the pedo vibe I was getting was mainly from that glasses guy really. It's fairly obvious the trio will end up half adopting him as some amazing authority figure but I dunno, it just felt slightly creepy. The ED sequence where he looks like he takes the 3 of them on a date didn't help either. Maybe it's just me...

I know what you mean about the humour though. I could see where it was trying to go like with the Muscle Okama guy but somehow it just didn't work.

Ah, fair enough. While I was watching the show the only character that came to mind was that commander dude that went easy on them after the destruction they caused. Even then I thought that was a bit of a stretch. Now that you're mentioning the main dude I suppose I can see where you're coming from

Special A ep1: Looks nice, some fairly good animation as far as I can judge with very Clamp-ish designs of long limbs. The story itself, Ouran-ish setting with not quite the same over the top silly humour. The main plot point of

she has to try and beat the guy in something

could get very old very fast if they keep with it. Shows promise though.

I'll agree with that. It gives me a sort of Tokimeki Memorial crossed with Ouran vibe but it definitely seems to be leaning towards the more forgettable nature of the former rather than the excellence of the latter. And with the studio in charge I'm not as optimistic as I usually am. That said, it did set my romance fanboy alarm bells ringing and it wasn't the worst opening episode I've seen so I will probably be in this for the long haul.

I didn't like the character designs in Special A for reasons unknown to me, maybe it was because of her extralong match stick legs. I just found it completely derivitive, pompous and boring, i deleted after watching it half way. It can never match the genius and laughs of Ouran.

Anyone watch Vampire Knight yet, i liked the first episode even though the adoration for the male vampires was really annoying. Super bishounen. I don't know if i could watch it after a couple of episodes though, see how it goes.

Bleach 166 - I was suprised that they animated the Grimjaw/Ichigo fight so well...and so much of it, thought they would phone it in, the whole episode is pretty much the fight . Good episode.

Has anyone done a fansub of Diamond Dust Rebellion yet? Been looking but havent found one.

So while the wait for subs continues, I decided to catch up with some stuff I'd downloaded a couple of years ago but not got round to.

First up Crest of the Stars. God knows why I put this off for so long but I'm sorry I did. Not exactly amazing looking animation compared to now but it's certainly not lacking in character development. The female lead didn't even suffer the current trend of being ridiculously tsundere or whining and highly emotional. Looking forward to the sequel series.

Also on schedule to watch; Maria-sama ga Miteru and Cowboy Bebop. With all my list of shows built up, it must be some kind of divine miracle I've not seen the latter.
