There must be a MASSIVE market for an alternative auction site that lets you pay through it and only be charged once instead of twice. Maybe it could even offer protection for sellers, or some degree of customer service.

Why hasn't this been done to a remotely professional degree?

It has a few times, I remember the cinema ads for QXL featuring Bruce Willis to promote that auction site and there were others. Problem is that the sellers only want to go where the buyers are and that's Ebay.

Alternative auction sites only get abused for thier incentives to list items by Ebay sellers that just flood them with overpriced items that wont sell on Ebay.

      They all dissapear quite quickly.

        About 25p!

For the convenience i'd say that's pretty worth it.

          Hi

My girlfriend put up an item of clothing on Ebay roughly 2 months ago, the item was won by someone and they took a week to let us know that they would be sending a cheque to pay (despite my gf stating in all her auctions that she would like payment within 7 days).

After 2 weeks we still had not received the cheque, and assumed it was down to the postal strike, but informed the buyer we had not received the cheque. She said she would pop another one in the post. Another 2 weeks later and still nothing, so we e-mailed her again. She basically said she would not be sending another cheque as she was buying the item for someone else, and refused to send out another cheque. We asked her to pay by Paypal then, but she refused as the item was not actually for her.

We then opened a non paying bidder dispute, where we bascially went over the same ground, although now she claims she does not have a Paypal account, even though she has been buying stuff on Ebay using it. She says in the dispute that she does not know what our problem is, as we can use Second Chance offer, and that she is being reasonable and we are being unreasonable.

Seeing as she is not willing to pay, we wanted to end the dispute by issuing a strike against her. We thought this course of action would mean that we could leave her feedback, and she would not be able to do the same for us. My girlfriend would want to leave her neg feedback, but is scared that the girl can do the same to her (My girlfriend currently has 100% positive)

We have written to Ebay about this and apparently it is true that if a buyer refuses to pay for whatever reason, and the seller opens a dispute, as long as the buyer replies to the dispute, they will be aloowed to leave you feedback.

Does anyone have any experience of this or advice?

I mean it just seems crazy to me!

          Thanks....and sorry its so long.

Okay so I bought a game from eBay US and I paid $30 for USPS Express Mail International. It was $15 for air mail but opted for the more expensive method for a faster and trackable service. However, over a week later there is no sign of the item (though this isn't the issue). There has been no response from the seller to 3 messages that I sent requesting confirmation of shipping and the tracking number for the game. My question is, if and when the item arrives and it has in fact been posted by a cheaper method, how do I go about retrieving the money I paid for a service that wasn't provided? Is this through PayPal or eBay? (Never had this problem before)

Also, in your opinion, should 3 unanswered emails in the space of 9 days lead to neutral feedback for the seller for bad communication?
            -
Thanks in advance for your help.

And just to add injury to insult, a game I bought from eBay US at exactly the same time (different seller), posted by USPS 1st Class International arrived over the weekend. I'm starting to get concerned about the game I bought which should've been posted USPS Express Mail International!

Bought both on 14th November - 1 arrived on 24th via 1st Class Intl, still awaiting delivery on the other!

Oh dear. I rarely use eBay any more after hearing all the horror stories in here and low and behold, I use it once and I end up in a possible nightmare of my own

I ordered a 12 month Live code from someone on Buy It Now and paid instantly using PayPal. The guy refunded me shortly afterwards and in the notification from PayPal his message said he had oversold the listing. Fair enough I thought. He told me of another seller who had Live codes for sale so I went and bought one from there instead.

Now the original seller who refunded me has opened up a non-payment dispute against me. I've just replied saying the I did pay and he refunded me, pasted in his response, and asked if he could sort it out.

Right now I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he just saw some old and unpaid entry on his account and forgot why it was showing unpaid. I am slightly worried about what might happen though. What's my situation if he won't drop the dispute? I know I have PayPal records on my side but I'm starting to wonder if this is part of some kind of scam.

If he's set it up as a mutual no payment dispute this is simply so he can get his final valuation fee refunded, and if mutual would not be a strike against you. If the dispute is claiming you are refusing to pay though, thats another story.

Yep that's what he's done. Fair enough I suppose but it would have been nice if he'd told me first!

This will apply to sellers whose Detailed Seller Ratings for postage & packaging are 3.9 or below, which accounts for roughly 0.5% of all sellers on the site.
3.9? (I've got a 4.5) Another cynical move by ebay IMO.

Been ripped off by a poor ebay seller.. what rights do I have?

I'm getting fed-up of waiting for useless emails promising a refund I'll probably never get, its not a HUGE amount, but ?82, still enough to .

He's basically not responding to emails anymore and it doesn't look like the refund will ever happen, he's only about 5 or 10 miles from me too, but I don't know exactly where he lives. - Anyway, I guess theres nothing the po-po can do, they are useless at the best of times. I might consider phoning them anyway though.

mods - if this is the wrong place, you know the deal.

anyone offer any advice? thanks in advance.

Think the chances of a refund is slim to none.

good thing is that he lives close by so I think the best thing would be a good old fashion stalking.

Park your car outside his house and observe him, call him from the phoneboth outside his bedroom and so on.

If you paid via paypal then file a paypal dispute and you'll get your money back eventually.

did you pay via paypal, i had a scammer send me a driving instruction dvd rather than Ratchet & Clank, took a month or so put paypal found in my favour and recredited my account the full amount.
