And so you should be, well done mate.

Good lord, I haven't fumbled into this thread for ages!

Since Easter, I started to run five miles five times a week and now, as we go into August, I have taken up a perfect route where I can run either seven or ten (and a half) miles due to the countryside having two optional routes for the past month or so.

It has been hard work with a few injuries along the way and a few of those 'I just can't be bothered any more' kind of days but my legs are literally made of titanium now.

So yeah, I guess I am pleased with myself too.

Somehow I'm going nowhere. I need to go back to basics and set goals and plan each week from the off.

Gained another kg in weight since I last posted and I now weigh about 63kg, I'm about 6 foot so I'm sure I'm still underweight for my height but never really looked into it. Due to my lack of body fat I'm looking fairly ripped thou 6 pack etc is starting to show and I'm much stronger overall than when I started, for example I was lifting 8kg for things like Dumbell Presses where as today I was lifting 14kg. I find it really hard to gain weight thou and seemed to have hit a wall, I've been taking Maximuscle cyclone since I started but I'm now thinking of changing to something else perhaps just a standard protein + carb shake and taking 3 instead of 2 a day. I changed my diet as well and have been eating loads of salmon, tuna, chicken, cottage cheese, and brown bread. Any advice?

EDIT* I've been using the sauna alot lately would this be related to the slow down in gaining weight ?

If you really want to gain weight just eat loads of food, it doesn't have to be healthy as far as I am concerned just a lot of it.

IMO just bulk up loads and then do CV to trim off any excess fat after that. It is worth nothing that I am terrible at the trimming off fat. I'm trying to stay at 88kg and tone up but I fluctuate a lot between when I do CV and when I lift weights.

I'm 6'' as well but a broad build. That helps but there isn't much you can do about that really...

Wow its ages since I posted in here.

Lost 10kg since I last did and looking pretty lean again at 86kg, bit of loose flab on the stomach to lose but thats just time now. Probably trim off another 2kg but that will be it. Result

Also got myself fit enough that I can work out 5 or 6 times a week again (with a rotation pattern of cardio and area specific weight training) which is excellent as I'm having to eat around 3000 calories a day just to maintain body weight. And as I like my food that suits me fine

Car has been sold and I'm back to push bike everywhere.

Its all good and I feel miles better both mentally and physically.

Are you tracking how many calories you're eating and expending? Like ItsThere said you need to pack in the calories. While you can get calories from anywhere its best if they come from a balanced diet (goes without saying really) rather than piling in the high calorie foods. There's ideal ratios for carbs / protein / fat intake etc. Personally I've never taken it that far.

Figuring out the expenditure in particular is not an exact science but you should be able to get a ball park.

Getting this nailed has really made a difference to my training in the last few months.

If you've hit a wall another thing is mixing up your workouts - do you vary your routine regularly?

Id like to get up to 5 miles a day 6 days a week too. Was doing really well too until a few weeks back i picked up a nasty flu virus which im still coughing and spluttering from, which sent my fitness back to about 3 miles a night. Also started getting tendon pains in my calves again after loosing my running socks, sounds daft but the proper footwear has helped me no end, specially as its all street running i do, must get a new pair asap!!.

Well done to you too fella

Had a body check thing today (fat % etc.) and some more good news - I've lost the flab and also in the last 4 months gained 4.5kg of lean mass.

                  Great stuff!

I've worked my balls off and its great to see it paying off

                  And good stuff ET.

After spending literally years training regularly in the gym and trying to eat all the right stuff, I had deveopled a great upper body but still had a big gut.(probably because I like boozing too much!) I'm 6'1" and having recently hit 14 and a half stone, I decided to do something drastic. So I bought mydelf the Food Doctor diet book and decided to try and stick to it religiously.

The first week you have a complete detox. Only eating exactly what you need. No bread, potatoes, pasta etc. Five small meals a day and no caffeine!!! Which was the toughest part by far for me.

First three days I felt absolutely exhausted! No energy to do anything other than sit around. Having endless cups of green tea. But after three days I suddenly felt so much better. It doesn't advise doing any gym work in the first week, which I didn't. Couldn't have gone if I tried anyway. You also drink lots and lots of water and you hardly ever need a poo as their is no wastage.

I lost half a stone in a week! And hunger is not really a problem, even though I have a big appetite, because you are eating very couple of hours. Feel sooo much better too.

This is the last day of my second week. Been a bit naughty a couple of time this week: had a pizza one day and a few drinks and a chinese last night. But other than that I've stuck to it pretty week again this week. Looking forward to weighing myself again tomorrow. Plus the best part is that it all seems to be coming off my belly!

Just goes to show that it's true what they say about getting fit: it's 70% what you eat and only 30% what you do in the gym.
Don't look at me, I'm irrelevant.

Big fan of green tea. I read recently if you drink some pre-workout (preferably on an empty stomach) it increases the rate at which you burn fat. Another benefit (well for me at least) is it helps keep you away from the Dentist - think it also prevents discolouring of teeth too.

I'm back in the game. Cycling, gyming, running. It means getting up early, but I'm feeling better already.

                          Allo allo. Quick update here.

Was up at 12st 9lbs last month, my highest ever, and down to about 11st 12lbs now having had about 3 weeks off with holidays etc. Need to get back at it. But I'm also goiing to ramp up the cardio.

My ankle is still buggered from when I injured it playing 5's last December, been going to physio weekly for a few months now but it's came on leaps and bounds since then. Still bad though, tore the ligaments something awful so I still can't run on it properly but I haven't tried for a while. Desperate to play squash again so I'm gonna try upping the ante with it now and see how it copes.

Even though I know BMI is a fairly poor indication of whether you're overweight or not, I was quite chuffed to be just inside the "ideal" band when I weighed myself today, for the first time, well, ever as far as I can recall.

Always been pretty overweight, but I finally decided to do something about it and I've lost about 6 stone over the last year and a bit. I feel so much better for it, too. Though it is costing me a fortune in clothes, as I've dropped 6 inches round my waist, and gone from XXL to medium tee shirts so had to replace everything I own pretty much

Need to build up my fitness a bit now, though. I've been cycling into work for the last few months which is definitely helping, but I'm still pretty unfit generally I think.

Since I have nothing else to do until I get another job, I've been walking between 4-8 miles a day for the pass 2 weeks. Gets me out the house and fit.

I try to take varying routes around where I live and I feel much healthier for it.

Tried joggin earlier this year but my stamina sucks so brisk walking it is

You've got to stick at it!
I started running again a couple of months ago and as soon as I stopped running at an end of a session I felt physically sick almost like I was about to explode. Then I after awhile I stopped having that horrible sick feeling. Until you run you can't really tell how fit / unfit you are and when I started out again I was shocked at how unfit I was... Which drives me even more to make sure I do get my lazy arse into gear and do a few laps of my local park.

I think being able to track and monitor your running really does help with motivation too. As well as some good music.
