hehe this thread moves really fast sometimes.

    Alastair:
More excellent shots. To me they have a real journalistic quality in that they tell a story. They have a real texture to them too.
I don't know if thats what your going for but it works really well. The lamp shot is great but my fave of the set is still Out of Order

    MonkeySteve
The puddle picture is an interesting idea and has great colour (it almost looks like a negative) but doesn't really tickle me. The shot of the coastline is great though and has a real sense of scale. Love the sky. (PS the link for the puddle is broken, you have two http://'s in there)

    Pete:
thats a great picture, lovely blue sky. I couldn't believe it was in the UK at first. I also am envious you have such great things to photograph during your work lunch break

    GT:
You really have an eye for buildings and lines. Number 2 and number 4 stand out for me, and I really like number 4. They may be ugly buildings but you have captured their geometric beauty.

    Fuse:
Nice shots, the one you posted here of the chap with the armband is probably my fave of the bunch. He stands out well against the background. If you are having trouble with the manual focus might be worth adjusting your dioptre for your eyepiece, helped me a lot. If not is autofocus not good enough for portraits.

And finally, my new lens came on Friday. The delivery man turned up just as I pulled up from work. which was perfect because it was before my partner got home so I could sign of the lens and unpack it into my camera bag and she is none the wiser that I have bought a new lens .
It was delivered in less than a week which is bloody great. Its the Sigma 105mm f2.8, bought from one stop digital and its my first non budget lens. And oh my goodness what a beautiful thing it is.
I haven't uploaded any macro shots because the only thing I found was water droplets on a leave, but as a prime its superb. The bokeh is great, the contrast is super and the colour is rich. I honestly don't know how I lived without it.

Posting a few examples, but they are not great, just examples of what the lens can do.

Oh yeah and one more black and white photograph just for the hell of it. I really enjoy black and white and trying to make myself a little recipie for a vintage look. (shot with the kit lens)

GT - love the first one especially, great contrast on the flowers and sky.

Liking winky's dome, MonkeySteve's puddle, and Pete's enviable surroundings too!

Been trying out the 50mm 1.8 some more, still not 100% happy with manual focus, but keeping at it. Starting to get quite into taking portraits with it. Was at an 80s themed party last night, which meant lots of bright lighting and people looking like they got dressed in the dark. Set here.

(anyone guess who he's meant to be?)

Turns out the mate whose band I saw a couple of weeks back is playing again tomorrow, so will try and improve on the results I got from last time.
      Love those pics

Thanks for all the comments people. Winky, I was going for texture yes, there's only so much you can do in the confines of a building so documentary is the result I guess. I wasn't consciously thinking of a style apart from getting the textures to show. Lens looks to be a cracker by the way.

Fuse, get out there and try to shoot whatever you can. You may surprise yourself but even if you don't love any of the shots you'll certainly learn a lot. Shame the first shot up there is a little out of focus but that happens loads when shooting at 1.8 even with AF, it's def a real skill that takes time to learn.

My Dad (64) was talking of going into abandoned building and shooting like I had when I told him. I had to explain to him about the dangers and the fact that it's not exactly legal!! Think he may have changed his mind. I have another location in mind but it's harder to get into and also a bit more dangerous so I may wimp out but we'll see.

Nice shots Winky. The first one is especially nice. It looks like that field just goes on forever!

Liking the third one a lot Mag, love how the reflections in the mug are also in focus yet the fingers aren't.

Aye some nice pics there Mag.

I had my Canon 10D with me today and in the middle of the street far from the river were three ducks taking a stroll ...

Just a pity they weren't walking across a zebra crossing.

Took this one on the walk into work this morning - there's some post-process work on it

I also totally missed getting a shot of the Red Arrows flying in formation with three Eurofighters at lunch :/ only saw the back of them as they flew low level across the rooftops.

I think adding a zebra cross would take a fair amount of work, but if anyone wants to give it a go they can ( pic has been set as Attribution-NonCommercial Creative Commons )

I grabbed a few shots on the way home, quite liked this one. It was lovely and sunny, if a touch windy.

I was recently contacted about this "poker face" shot I put on flickr ealrier this year (inspired by AgentL), asking if it could be used by an online poker website for some advertising. It looked like a random Flickr thing and they'd move onto the next bod if I had asked for payment, so no money was involved. Just thought it was cool to go ahead with!

                        Pretty cool, no?

I was going to ask for tickets, but as it happens I'm in Vegas that week anyway

Proof indeed that you guys should put stuff on stock photography sites.

                              Hello there.

Ok I am another complete and utter novice here, never taken anything apart from crappy drunken pictures of the floor! I went on a trip to a train musuem recently and decided to take camera, these are just a few shots of what i caught. Thought the rubbish was interesting and gave some good focus. But again complete novice! Plenty more pictures to download but all comments welcome so far, be kind

thought it was an interesting project

This sombre series of portraits taken of people before and after they had died is a challenging and poignant study. The work by German photographer Walter Schels and his partner Beate Lakotta, who recorded revealing interviews with the subjects in their final days, reveals much about dying - and living
