So, you guys - do you go around taking pictures willy-nilly, or are there definite methods to taking good pictures? I stand strictly by the whole beauty is in the eye of the beholder thing, but I mean, let's say I take a picture, are experienced photographers going to look at it and say "Well that's nothing special" ?

I'd welcome anyones advice on a new lens i need. It appears that my 5 year old dropped my 30D and snapped the lens from the body , fortunatly it was the kit 18-55 not the nice 60 macro lens I have. The question is what do i replace it iwth, I can get a 18-55 with IS for about 120, just wondered if anyone else had any ideas, currently the 60 is the only other lens

If you want another similar length zoom, then that's a great lens for the price. With a nice camera like that, you might benefit from the excellent Tamron 17-50 2.8, which has excellent image quality and a wide aperture. Otherwise, the Canon 18-55 is meant to be the best zoom for the price.

Well, I'm off to the Big Chill Festival tomorrow with my photography press pass! I am excited and terrified in equal measures

Good luck Dan, hope the trailer full of foie gras and sexy bitches doesn't distract you too much from the job at hand

Got a flickrmail from someone in Costa Rica who runs a fanzine asking if he could use some of my photos of Converge, saying that I'd be fully credited and he'd post me a copy of the 'zine too. Not quite a press pass to a festival, but I'm getting there

Thanks Fuse. And congrats for your bit of luck - you'll have to scan the 'zine and post it up on here.

Maybe next year we should try to get a press pass to the same festival (I might be able to do the Big Chill again and could try and put in a good word for ya). See if we can get a few of us along perhaps?

Another of Martha Wainwright. Progress on processing has been slow due to coughing and retching. Lovely. Apparently I have a chest infection. Hopefully the anti-biotics will clear it (I think I'm retching a little less!) else have to go for an x-ray.

                        Anyway. To the photos.

Great macros Tommy. Love the millipede and tortoise thing.

GT - would have been interesting to see the seconds DoF fade on the flower!

                              Few from me.

Perfect shot of the Red Arrows Ish!!

I've just this minute chased a toad out the house. Managed to get two shots of him, one being quite good. They inflate themselves to show you who's boss, it's funny as

                                Here he is...
