Shutter lag was the main reason I moved to a DSLR, never looked back.

One of my cats catching some evening sun.

Thought it looked good in BW but lost the colour of his eyes.

DSLRs are easier to use in my opinion. I recently had a play with a Canon G7 and it's nice camera that feels really solid in the hand, but it's too confusing to use with so many buttons and menus settings to change simple functions.

Depends what you're familiar with...cameras with smaller sensors tend to be far less punishing, when people borrow one of my compacts I've seen them take pictures with incorrect settings but still the pictures are reasonable. I can't say the same for SLRs, my friends normally won't touch them anyway and when they do the results are usually poor.

Everyone's done a shot in the mirror of them and their camera right? Well, I was just playing about with high ISO before I go and shoot my first gig this afternoon and this came out. I love the grainy soft look (which is all down to ISO 500 and f1.8).

When did you get the 30D then? I must have missed it. Congrats anyway. I am sure it's the perfect match for your 70-200.

Just borrowing it for this 2 week festival I'm shooting. Really makes me want one even more now though

I see. It is a great camera.

Managed a quick dirty processing of 4 shots of the 300 from yesterday.

This man is a mountain, looks like Nick Frost's been on the puddings!

Syntax, the other half of the act, pretty much polar opposites. These guys ripped an amazing set, great freestyles about having BO!

Haven't got these guys names yet.

The kid (Rizzle) is 13 or 14, he flows better than most of the 'rappers' that are making big money!

I did 8 straight hours yesterday, I've got a headache from the bass and I'm super tired. Sorting through 300 shots tonight and converting them all to .tiff for the 'client' fills me with dread.

To summarise, gig photography is hard isn't it, getting anywhere near a decent shutter speed is super tricky, most of the shots were ISO 1000 at least and f1.8, I was still only getting 1/40 some of the time like that!

nice shots, I especially like 2 and 3.

As for conversion...you could batch convert the whole lot to tif which would at least help with a bit of time saving/monotony slashing!

Thanks, they need some PP work though in RAW first!

Anyone know why I'm getting a few shots like this? Maybe 10 from 300 show like this in Bridge. Corrupt RAW file I'm guessing but why? Also, why can't I open files from the 30D in RAW Shooter Essential when I could from the 300D?

Any way to save the shots?

I've seen recovered images from a memory card like that. Was the card formatted for the 30D?

As for Raw Shooter, think it was written before the 30D so the Raw support might not work. Not too sure if its still a supported product (it might be the one Adobe took over before releasing LightRoom).

Looking on Google it seems Raw Shooter Premium is supported but not Essential. Looks as if Canons Digital Photo Pro is the free option. Though it is supported on lightroom which you can download for a 30 day trial.

It was formatted yes, did it on 2 different cards Will look into recovery as one in particular is a great shot, they show fine on the camera screen.

That would explain it, it was taken over by Adobe before Lightroom came out so doubt it's supported at all anymore.

May take a look at lightroom, is it any use?

I use lightroom for all my cataloging and keywording now. It allows a bit of editing croping/colour etc Plus it has a spot clone/heal tool. Very handy to rid of all the dust my cameras get.

Keywording saves a lot of time when searching, mind you i've got 4000 odd images in the catalogue now.

Other apps do a similar job, Capture One and Aperture(Mac Only - needs a decent spec mac though).

Think if you bought RawShooter premium, Adobe allow you to get a free copy of LightRoom (price is around £150 atm, or £200 in Jessops)

Saw a bit of blue sky over the weekend, so shot it!

Nice gig photos btw! Low light is a bit tricky, especially when the subject keep moving.

                                Nice gig shots Alastair.

Took a few shots at the weekend while visiting my parents. Most were snapshots to be honest but here's a couple:
