Spag - just love that tap shot, that's real coffee table photo book material!

Ish - I like the light the on the top of the tent pic

Keep up the cracking work guys

That last picture is absolutely wonderful, Alastair. Great shot there.

      Love that tap shot, Spags

That portrait doesn't seem that flattering, Ish. I like the kooky lighting one though. There's a good amount of texture in it.

I keep bidding on refurbished 400Ds on the Canon eBay shop. Has anyone had any experience dealing with them?

Also, thinking about the 1.6 zoom multiplier, a 50mm lens will give an equivalent of 80mm on the 400D, correct? So a 35mm lens will give the equivalent of 56mm? 50mm seems like a nice number for street photography, and that's pretty damn close.
Pity that the 35mm 2.0 is more than double the price of the 50mm 1.8. I can see this SLR business getting very expensive, very quickly.

I got a Canon A540 from them for £70 quid, which turned up in 3 days. Didn't come in its original box, just a generic Canon refurbish one, but all the bits were present and correct, and I've had no issues with it. I took it on my Durham hols and got some nice shots with it. Or did you mean experience with the 400D?

          No, that's perfect Marty, thanks!
There are enough reviews and impressions of the 400D around the web to keep anyone happy until the cows come home, cook their dinner, watch Match Of The Day, and fall asleep on the sofa.

The only thing I was worried about is a lack of people to go and throw things at, which tends to be more important the more expensive/delicate your item gets. I guess the 1 year warranty covers any eventuality though.

            Yes it does.

Guys, I'm hoping for another beautiful evening tonight as I was planning on going out to take some sunset/sky shots, but I was just wondering which of my lenses I should use, my 18-135mm f3.5 or the 50mm f1.8?

I'm guessing probably the former as I have taken some with that before (there's some examples here) but I just wanted to check what you might recommend...

              Thanks

              Dan

Might as well use the 18-135 as it'll give you the chance to zoom in out to frame the shots better. I doubt you'd be down at 1.8 for a sunset but if you like the colours better from that lens take it.

Why not just take both and swap about a bit and see what works best?

Cheers Al, I think you're right - I'll take both and play around a bit. I suppose it's not as if I'd miss something because the sun goes down so fast!

                  Thanks

Personally I'd take both. You'd be surprised how quick it does go. I found that out when shooting a sunrise.

Very odd, I never entered a picture because you had to pay a tenner first

LOL. Double Congratulations bonus. One for getting chosen and one for doing so without entering.

                          What was the photo?

                          Well done again, good luck!

I do believe they may have made a mistake with a bulk email

But when you go to the link they sent is your photo there?

                              Comment

Nope - you have to register to login, so I guess they just bulk mailed everyone on the registered list.

I'd never pay to enter a competition like this, £10 per category and up to four photos - there are plenty of free ones with prizes out there.
