Aye - definitely join up, you've some fine pics there ( which I spotted in your stream earlier on ), it's one of the better flickr groups, I'm sure you'll do well.

I seem to be getting a few votes, but I'm using up my back-catalogue quite quickly. I need to get out this w/e and give the D80 a workout and get some fresh stuff - I was hoping for some snow today, but alas it decided not to make an appearance :/

Thanks guys. I did get the invite Pete yes but I don't internet much at home and as I had over 2 weeks off for xmas I ignored reading the rules as they seemed a bit complex at the time. Have just taken the time and read it all and even entered my first shot. Surely I'll win!?!

Younds! Some great shots in here. I really like all of those one Alastair, especially the Robin and Chaffinch ones. The robin's composition is so classic, the only thing that could improve it is a touch of snow.

I haven't posted much as I just never get around to uploading anything anymore, but I do pop in quite a bit and check out the talent.

I just borrowed the Canon 100mm Macro lens with the hope of going out to the woods and doing something interesting, but I've been hit by a nasty cold so that put paid to that idea. Gonna have to do some indoors photography for now.

Thanks, didn't have any in the camera bag that day, damn! Shooting indoors is fun, especially with a proper macro lens, enjoy.

Yeah just had a little play with my 100mm, although I have since bought other lenses of similar or greater cost, it is still my personal favourite.

(I couldn't really frame this, since I was looking down the wrong end of the camera. Click for large, detail is pretty cool)

              Bit morbid...sorry!

All taken with the 100mm macro and various extension tubes, manual focused.

Pete, that first shot is well freaky, but cool

Speaking of eyes, has anyone seen this gallery of irises by annoyingly pretentious one word-named snapper Rankin?

                  Pretty beautiful.

That eye picture is brilliant and freaky.

Both you and marty have called my eye freaky, I'm gonna start worrying something is wrong soon!

Maybe freaky is the wrong word - eeiry? The angle and closeness, it's just not something you see ( ) - it is, however, a fantastic composition given you self-portraited

And now you're up against my really cool stick insect shot with this one - the battle lines are drawn

Argh, freaky macro shots galore! Mine are really tame so far. I need to find something nightmarish!

For me it's the level of detail and that it's a mixture of the familiar and unfamiliar. You can see what it is, but the close up nature of the photo makes it look slightly alien (not sure that's a better description mind).

Because of the limitation of the human eye, when you look at someone you don't see the level of detail on show there - both the iris and pupil normally look circular and quite even and symmetrical, even when you stare at someones close up. You see detail but not that level of detail, particularly in the pupil which might be reflecting something there but it's impossible to tell.

I'm not sure if it's that shot or how the eye really is but that looks irregular and muddy. Brilliantly done.
