there was a good article recently on Sherdog about assessing Fedor's history, it concluded that he's obviously incredibly good but has fattened his record up a bit in recent years.

its such a shame that he's not fought the top fighters in the UFC in recent times as that would have ended the debate once and for all about whether he's the greatest of all time or not.

saw that very large Dutchy, Overeem I think recently, he looked a bit of a monster.

I was disappointed that he didn't sign for the UFC too, but you can't argue with the man's legacy and achievements - one loss (to a two-time ABDCC champion) doesn't change anything. Even your idol Brock Lesnar has lost. Werdum went 2-2 in the UFC and beat some quality opposition; he's hardly a reject.
I don't hate Fedor. He was the man in Pride, but that was a good few years ago now. It's just the way he, and his camp, handle business. It really is laughable. He just says he does whatever his people tell him, and had the balls to demand unreasonable things such as co-promotion from UFC. They basically knew he would be beaten and his reputation tarnished but whats better? Losing to a Shane Carwin or losing to Werdum.

With the way he turned down massive money from UFC top fight the best to fight "easy" opponents for a lot less money he basically came across a coward.

        So, UFC 116.

The main fight being the two monsters Lesnar v Carwin.

Peoples thoughts on who the victor will be?

I'm going for Brock, I just think he has more to his game than Carwin. But saying that, it would'nt suprise me if Carwin wins by a K/O .

Whoever wins, are they the best MMA heavyweight on the planet after Fedor's recent loss?

Biggest unknown factor for me in this is how Lesnar comes back from serious illness and a year out without so much as a warmup fight.

Carwin probably edges standup but Lesnar on the ground has the edge for me

I go 60:40 Carwin solely because of Lesnar's layoff

I still think Fedor could beat Brock, and even if he lost, we?re talking a 60lbs weight difference against a top level fighter; it?s not going to hurt his legacy.

Fedor remains the greatest MMA fighter of all time in my book, until someone puts together an equally impressive winning streak.

Carwin via KO in the first.

Lesnar to smother and win on points, I hope. Come on Brock!

I think Ring rust will get the better of brock and it will be Carwin by decision

Wow, couldn't wait so skipped the recording to the 2h mark when the main event walks in.

Won't spoil the result yet but will say it's a brilliant match, one of the best title fights recently and shows why heavies always have the biggest interest when they clash

Could'nt wait to watch it either, so when the family were having breakfast this morning I sneaked off into the lounge to watch it!

I'm presuming that people will probably have seen it by now, but if not, stopping reading now!

                    What a great title fight!

I was willing Lesnar to hang in there when he was on his back whilst being blasted by Carwin's bombs. I was concerned that the ref would stop it, but other than Brock taking a few elbows and punches to the face, he did manage to cover up rather well.

As soon as the 2nd round started you could see that Carwin was gassed. There was no snap to the (few) punches he threw, and when Brock did his shot for the take down, Carwin just stood there without trying to nulify it.

What a great submission move too. Apparently he's been practicing that over and over. You could see Carwin's face turning purple as Lesnar cranked his arm in, tighter and tighter.

Considering that Brock has'nt fought in a year & was fighting the no. 1 challenger, you have to give him kudos for retaining the belt.

As for the other fights, watch the co-main event with Leben in it. Another brilliant fight with one equally great submission move.

As an aside, at the end of the transmission, when the commentators were talking about the fights over the night, they had footage of the Lesnar's changing room with the Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in there. Jesus! How big is that guy!!! Honestly, his arms are bigger than Lesnar's . He's one big dude.

Lesnars still the baddest SOB around the tho'!

Disappointed for Carwin. Lesnar had nothing for him standing but he just couldn?t pull the trigger once it went to the ground.

Yeah, it was nice to see him win with an arm triangle - never saw that coming. If he keeps developing his submission game there?s really no one that can beat him; well, maybe Carwin in a rematch. ;p

Anyone see the Bonnar fight? Incredible comeback, but man, he took a lot of damage in the process. Makes me wonder if he should call it a day.

Carwin is a meathead and fought like one, I like the more humble lesnar in his post match interviews & press conference.

It did look bad for lesnar because of position but he didn't actually take that many clean shots and carwin was trying to get one of those swarming tko's but didn't put much thought into the quality of his punching.

I liked the touch when they showed celebs in the crowd and listed stone cold and the rock as actors. Those guys don't need to cut to 265 like lesnar, he was much bigger in his wrestling days

Very good bill in general, the leben fight was amazing, even more so bearing mind he fought only 2wks ago

Thought the whole show was good. Lesnar is a freak of nature. I hope he continues to work his submission game and if he added reasonable striking then he would be unbeatable.
I hope Leben gets his matchup against Silva, though I would favour Silva to knock him out. I cant wait for EA MMA now, I'm almost tempted to buy the UFC game...

The match went pretty much exactly as I expected, apart from Lesnar pulling off a submision; I expected ground and pound.

Carwin went all out as expected and almost pulled off the KO but Lesnar's chin was too good. Good to see it being tested and him surviving. He did a good job of defending. Exciting fight.

I think Lesnar will take care of Velasquez quite easily too and then who? Possibilities I see are a Carwin rematch or possibly get Fedor in for a dream matchup.

                              Comment

Well Velasquez certainly has a better tank than Carwin thats for sure, and is (arguably) more precise with his punches.

However, I remember watching him against Kongo, and even tho' he bossed all 3 rounds of the fight, he could never put Kongo away. I don't think he will trouble Lesnar too much with his boxing skills, so I can only see it being won on the mat. This is Lesnar's bread and butter, where he is most comfortable.

The only way I can see a Velasquez win is if it goes the distance, with Lesnar tiring in the latter rounds. However Velasquez will, at some point in the fight, be on his back with Lesnar mounted. From that point there will be only one outcome.

Lesnar to win by ground n' pound.
