It's pretty clear that he originally had no intention whatsoever of letting Andy Carroll go unless there was going to be a replacement. It would appear that he only let Carroll go because a genuine replacement was promised. One didn't materialize. Ergo, the board pulled a double-switch on Rodgers and publicly undermined, with our squad now looking totally bereft of any firepower.

Is that what officially happened, or is it your take on it?

They (FSG) have publicly acknowledged their mistakes, so the benefit of the doubt should at least be extended to them till the Jan transfer window.

Going by Rodgers interviews since the closure of the window, it doesn't appear difficult to deduce that that's what has happened. of course, it's opinion, but I fail to see how it could be anything else.

I would just write this season off, and lets bring through some of our academy players through. In all honesty we have no alternative and I wouldnt mind seeing a few more young local lads in the team, even if it means losing a fair few games this season.

You question giving FSG benefit of the doubt yet what else can be done, and by whom, in the meantime?

I appreciate your sentiments wrt the source of goals, but now that the Europa League squad has been submitted, it appears BR is fast tracking some of our reserves/U21. Hopefully Suso/Yesil/Morgan can stake a permanent claim in the team/squad for the PL.

And Owen has signed for Stoke. So you can stop frothing at the mouth now.

I hate international breaks, but it maye have come at a good time to regroup and let people collect their thoughts.

Although I don't hold much hope for the game at Sunderland. They've got a very decent first 11 these days and at home are tough to beat. I wouldn't be surprised if we dropped more points there. Then after that we have Man u. I think we know what is more than likely to happen there as well. After that we have Norwich away, again a tough place to go. Though last year we turned them over.

Only after that game can I see probable winnable games at stoke at home and reading at home.
Only problem is, we'll be already rooted to the bottom of the table by the time these games come in october.

But who knows, a youth player might just explode into life. Borini might find his feet.

Wow, I can't help, but to keep listening when he talks. Great insight.

Aye, he's a great talker Rodgers. Liked the question in the second interview where he talks about Allen's role in midfield.

Excellent insight into Rodgers' mind there. The fact he is talking about a single holding player with two able to get up and down would signal to me that Gerrard's days are numbered, he simply doesn't have the engine to get up and down anymore.

For me, that is gonna be the biggest issue facing the club until they can get some more players in. The support of the front three in the new Liverpool system is of paramount importance and I'm not sure where its gonna come from. Gerrard can do it for part of the game, Sahin I've not really seen and Shelvey is raw at the moment. Henderson, he seems to have been consigned to the rubbish bin like the rest of the recent Liverpool signings.

Will be interesting to see how we cope till jan tho. Will he be using youth players or just stick with current first team for the moment.

Two poor decisions killed the game today. Shelvey should never have been sent off (both players flew in with studs showing yet only one gets carded?) and that is one of the softest penalties I've seen in a long time - watching the replay he went down before the challenge was even made.
