Surely though we have got to be a little worried after that performance? It was absolute ****e, after Vidic made that mistake and they equalised we looked like we collapsed. One wonders how Fergie lifts them up after that.

Hate to say this ever but well done to the gret pretenders up the road you fully deserved it today and out played us all ove rthe pitch.(Enough of the niceness now.)
As for us...WHAT A ****ING DISGRACE OF A PERFORMANCE!!.
From VDS in goal to Tevez up front we were out played, out fought, lacked any kind of desire to win a header or a tackle looked very blunt of attacking ideas...against the mousers n all who now have done the double over us and who knows what todays result will do for our season even with a 4pt lead and a game in hand we have seen it all at OT ...but if theres one team thats better than any at recovering from a HUGE set back its us as we shown when we last lost to Arsenal back in Nov 08 and with tricky games coming up at Fulham and at home to Villa maybe just maybe there might just be a little sqeeky bum in the air at OT...FFS Lets hope not cos United love to put us through it.

Looked good up to the Vidic mistake. Then Evra gifts them a penalty. No idea what two experienced players like that were thinking.
Still, 4 points ahead, 1 game in hand. Still looking very good. Concern is the recent United performances, Evra has looked shaky the last few games, and the center of midfield isn't doing it for me right now. We need Hargreaves back!
Next game is important now. Get a win, get some confidence back. Still got Arsenal and Villa at home....

You're talking like you've never seen us lose a match before (i've had some terrible lows over the years) but one thing I've always held on to is Fergie's brilliance in raising the team after a bad performance. Just think back to November when we put in a similarly shambolic performance against an Arsenal team who were in the middle of a horrible run. I remember lots of "fans" thought the title was gone for us then too and look what we did after that.
Obviously we can't be arrogant about it. We need to fully respect every team we play from now until the end of the season but the fact is we still have 6 points we can afford to "throw away" before Liverpool/Chelsea even get a sniff of the title. This is a very strong position for us. Do you honestly believe that:
a. Liverpool and Chelsea will pick up all the points between now and the end of the season (I only have even a semblance of confidence that one of them has a chance of doing that and it certainly isn't Liverpool based on form)?
b. We will throw it all away after one loss?
Today is no doubt a great day to be a Liverpool fan. I imagine their feeling is similar to how I felt back in early 2005 when we went to Highbury and came from behind twice to beat Arsenal 4-2 in one of our best games of that season. It was a great day but at the end of the season it didn't make up for the fact that Chelsea won the title that season by a clear margin.
We have a 4 point lead with a game in hand. The way you're talking we've just lost the title
EDIT - One thing I do feel is that I hope we don't face Liverpool in Europe as we will really need to up our game based on today if that happens.Last edited by C'; 14-03-2009, 14:02.

The problem in midfield seemed to be we had no one tracking back to fill the space just in front of the back 4 which really played into Liverpool's hands with their Gerrard playing off Torres formation. It really heaped the pressure onto our our defenders which is where the mistakes were made (no defending Vidic's decision not to head the ball for Torres' goal though).

Our slip ups (mostly draws) against "lesser" teams has put us where we are in the league. You guys have shown how it's done, grinding out results. Something that we were almost doing. I hope we've made the likes of Man U and Chelsea think twice about playing us home or away thanks to convincing results this season. I think the mauling we gave yers today may have just done it.

We have a 4 points lead at the moment, maybe 7 points if we win our game in hand. Yes it means we could lose one or maybe two games but do we really want to do that? Losing games at this stage of the season is something we do not want to do. I certainly hope Fergie doesn't say that to the players, "lads we can afford to lose one or two games, don't worry". It is not really the mentality we want to be adopting.
I shall stay positive though, we are still top of the league

I certainly don't think we can have a mentality that we can go into games knowing we can lose (but you know Fergie would never allow that). But it does allow for us the freedom to be able to accept this but whilst also treating it as the wake up call we need to kick on for the remainder of the season.
The one positive we HAVE to take from this result is that it reminds the players that despite what fans of opposing teams (who only say it to try and inspire complacency) and the media might say, we are still in a title race.

F*cking well played Liverpool. We were outplayed from start to finish. I have never seen Man United perform so insipidly or inept with their passing and general all round play. They actually looked completely disinterested.
How many passes went astray, well wide or didn't even reach their intended target???? We looked totally complacent as if it was a given we would win.
Liverpool fully deserved their win as they were excellent. Vidic who hasn't put a foot wrong all season can forgiven his first mistake, but not the second. His errors were just two of many elementary f*ckups all over the pitch for us today.
Its sods law that whenever we lose heavily, it will always be to our bitterest rivals, never to the likes of Bolton etc.
A good kick up the ass is what we needed to remind us that we are not invincible. We should kick on now and tie up the league as this result hasn't really changed anything. Liverpool are 3 points closer....so what!! Its a potential 7 with our game in hand. Liverpool haven't a prayer of winning the league even with this result.
One loss in about 30 for united with today!! I certainly don't think we'll be worrying too much in the aftermath of this, **** happens in football, and you have to expect that someone will tonk us in the season at least once.
I'd actually be very disappointed to Liverpool fan after todays performance as the daft thing is, Liverpool will probably go and lose or draw their next game to a bottom half club.
Rafa said in the week after the Madrid game how liverpool had learned to beat the big boys, but i don't think thats ever been Liverpools problem. They beat the big hitters and then lose to the likes of Wigan or Boro which is what we don't do and theres the difference.
You don't win the league just by beating the top four sides.
I said in this thread in Oct or Nov when they were flying that Pool would be at least 10 points off the pace come the end of the season and i don't see that prediction changing.

hopefully its just one of those days next week at fulham is a big one now, but to many players had an off day , was rooney actually playing, i was amazed tevez stared instead if berbatov and anderson and carrick were very poor, you defend from the front and rooney and park didnt do it that well as they usually do, but i remember we have a great defence in 96 and went to southampton and lost 6-3 and then newscastle beat us by 5 when it all went against us so im just hopefully putting this down as a very bad day at the office, i just sticks in the throat that both times this season we have been 1 - 0 up against liverpool and costly errors have cost us both games.
