I'm a bit late to the discussion on this one, and I'd rather not trawl through 42 pages, so I'll just post my opinion.

Reached Chapter 4 now, and I'm really loving it. The beginning area is a bit misleading, it's boring, and it has a pace which emphasises how the controls have been shoehorned into a genre they weren't designed for. Couple that with the fact that the plagas can jump, and it seems like a bit of a mess.

Persisting really paid off however, and the more I've seen, the more I've enjoyed. Once I got out of the damn villiage areas and into more interesting areas like the swamp and oil fields, it started to remind me of RE4, and I've been really engrossed. The boss battles are quite fantastic, too.

Not played co-op yet, though Sheva's AI isn't that bad. tbh anyone who played through Resi Zero or Outbreak will probably find her AI very good. It's not been a big enough problem to hinder my enjoyment of the game, anyway.

All in all, I'm as pleased as I could be with this. I am a bit of a Resi purist and wish for a return to the classic Resi style, but given I expected an evolution of Resi 4, I'm not disappointed.

As for Versus mode, we all knew they were withholding the content, the game has only been out a few weeks, and stuff takes that long to go through the submission process. Thank god I don't care about Versus mode.

how does it work out how long you've been playing the game?

i wouldnt mind unlocking the infinite rocket launcher so i've played through the game making sure the speed is fast on each level, but playing multiple levels over and over again to get the time quicker and to earn money to upgrade my weapons

currently on level 5-3 and its taken me 3 hours so far, if i continue this until then the end will it unlock the launcher or have you got to do it in one go?

It takes the fastest times for each stage. If you take too long on one section you can therefore replay it.

How do you go about getting an S rank on level 6-2

i keep on getting an A because enemies routed is coming up as a C rank, everything else is S except that one and i can find anybody else to kill

unless the things the boss drops are included in the kills, i've just been ignoring them

            You got it Sherlock!

This one stumped me for ages too.
Get over 20 or 30 i think for the S-rank.

yeah just played it through and i got 16, B rank

but if i get S's on the other 3 is should level out as a S rank overall

aye, for some reason, accuracy doesnt seem to matter that much, grade wise compared to time/ kills.
As i got 'S' for accuracy, but 'A' for kills and all i got was a 'A' rank in total.

the game clearly lacks attention to detail. today i was wodering why Chris and Sheva refused to wear the melee vest i had just purchased. they do but it doesn't show in the character's appearance. lazy stuff.

also i don't like the design choice to let the gamers explore deserted levels and make the enemies appear out of nowhere. stupid. and not very sniper-friendly.

Uli, the melee vest does appear (though not quite as obvious as the bulletproof vest)

For chris, it adds elbow pads (unless someone else has spotted anything else extra)
and for Sheva, she gets these upper arm wraps, just underneath her shoulders. And slightly different forearm gaurds.

Apart from that, not much else, details wise.

on 6-3 i exhausted all my ammo taking out all the bad guys including 2 minigun fekkers

then i noticed a machine gun to the side, sitting all alone - fekk

On wesker now, should have it finished by tomorrow, 4hrs play time so far

                        Now complete

total time was 4hrs 46mins for my first play thru

48 minutes was on the last level and some of the QTE's took me by surprise

Playing thru the last level again with the infinite magnum and i reckon i've just got to Wesker on the Volcano in around 10 mins

re-did the last level and i did it this time in 13mins - All Special rank

the longest level for me so far was 5-3, where the sniping helps a little and i suck at it, i was using the dragonov, but i guess if you upgrade the PSG all the way it will zoom in closer

Since i've now finished the game i will state that i have different feelings about the latter half of the game, i loved the old duck and cover

It felt weird at the start, but now i can walk into a room throw a flash grenade and generally take out the bad guys before that get a chance to take cover again

Lickers were a pain in the bum (as they've always been) - but sniping them makes things so much easier

The controls however still suck, even the quick turn is awful

Wesker is ace and the cut scenes are almost cinematic

RE4 for me was much better, but RE5 isnt a bad game at all but i dont think i will bother with all the achievements

i will give Mercenaries a go later on because its always been great since RE2 days (Hunk & Tofu)

Finally got round to completing this Yesterday and to sum this game up, the first half was good, second half was pretty crap.

For me when you finally caught up with Irvine and finished him off, this game went down hill. It`s as soon as you went out of africa the whole game changed direction (and for the worse) Especially the last couple of chapters where everyone is carrying machine guns and rpg`s Just totally ruined the game for me. Plus the final boss fight with Wesker was pretty lame to. Capcom was definatly missing Mikami on this title imo.

Just completed this, it's awesome. I've been one of the more critical members towards this game during development, but I've come out of this rather pleased. It was never going to satisfy my desire for a Resi that returns to what they accomplished with REmake in terms of atmosphere and tension, but as an action game that builds on RE4, it's delivered what I expected.

I was initially put off by the villiage area of this game, it's really mediocre, and highlights the weak points of the control system, and is just plain dull. I recommend people put off by this initial section to persevere, because it picks up after Chapter 2 when things become more interesting. Especially the Africa swampland section, I thought this was genius stuff, and an expansion on the missed potential they had in the lake area of RE4.

I really can't think of anything else to say other than it's a great sequel to RE4. I still long for a return to REmake-style tension, but this hasn't disappointed as a sequel to RE4.

I partially agree, partially dispute. Certainly the more 'industrial' areas took a more action-orientated approach, I expected this after the latter half of RE4, and felt it was very well executed. They resisted the temptation to overdo the 'hiding behind stuff' mechanic - it's there, but it's not the overriding element of the gameplay like in Gears of War. I dunno, I'm with you in that I prefered the feeling of the less actiony sections, especially the African swampland, but I felt it was well executed. As for the final boss fight with Wesker... it was about as epic as they could have possibly done tbh, can't think of what else they could have done! I felt they didn't miss Mkami at all, in fact, I felt this proved that they don't really need him.

Good write up mate but that is the only point you made that I disagree with.

Didn't you think 'OH COME ON!' when

you crashed landed in a flipping volcaneo of all areas, environments and places in the world!? Talk about it being the biggest clich? in videogaming history.

The final battle would have been excellent if the whole fight was a chase sequence or a simple one-on-one showdown over a level or through an area where it could be possible to down Wesker before you get to 'the end' similar to Krauser in Resident Evil 4 but without the quick time events.

I'm glad you enjoyed the game to the very end though.

As for myself, I still enjoy replaying chapter one to four every now and again and I am just trying to upgrade all the possible weapons to grab hold of other non-purchasable firearms; how does one find or get the gatling gun and bow arrow?
