Having some difficulty playing the game ? my set up is a AMD Athlon 64 3200 with a gig of RAM and a nvidia 6800 256mb card. I have checked the settings in the game and they are all set to high, but when I play the game it freezes out every few seconds and then sometimes loses the sound? All the drivers are updated ? any ideas?

Open up steam, go to play games then you can download the SDK from there.

So not only do you HAVE to install the game in Steam folder, and HAVE to connect to the net, you also HAVE to install CS with it.

What an unbelievably fascist piece of ****!!

EDIT, I've just installed and it says that it was unable to Subscribe me (whatever the hell that means), but I can play regardless. Is it safe to unplug the modem do you think and play in offline mode? Or is subscription necessary?
Same thing happened to me, you can't play in offlin emode till the game is fully registered. If you check the properties it says Offline mode Not Ready.

All the loading really spoils the flow for me,and for that i wouldnt give it 10/10!!
But its still the best game this year by far!

                Doh, I spotted it

I thought it would ask me during install.

I agree about Loading it is annoying at first but I got used to it when the main action kicked in, its a nice breather

The loading really spoils the game in my view. As a: its too often and b: it takes ages. I'm tempted to drop to lower res so the textures load quicker. I've just got to the part where you pick up the magnum and have to open the gates.

The action is intense though. Anyone who fired up the stolen version - is it much different?

****in steam powered pile of ****e. I have bever been so insulted. i bought this game and have now wasted 4 hours trying to register and begin playing. If this were any other product people would be queing in droves to complain, but no us gamers put up with this ****. You can tell all the mags didn't have to endure this insulting process to begin playing. I will perservre, will probably love the game when I get there, but Valve have scored a massive own goal with this 'control freak' attitude.

                    Here goes again..............

The physics engine does it for me, bloody superb and the detail! Getting shot at when under water makes bubble trails behind the bullets, spot on! And the water, wow, 40fps anywhere else, then a water scene and boom fps drops alot. One thing I really really really wish you could do....pick up the bodies / corpses, you can pick up nearly anything else, but so want to pick up a body and feed it to the ceiling hangers or chuck it in the river.

                      Patch maybe?

I bought off steam (thought I wouldn't be able to download due to uni) and downloaded in about 3 hours. Although at one point it said I'd finished and in fact I'd only grabbed 60% which was odd.

Bar that I've had no problems, bar the overlong boating session that should be remade into a more exciting Live and Let Die mod.

                            This game pwns.

I'm not going to say any more until morning and I've gathered my head back.

I've also spent too much time trying to get 5.1 sound ... then, after much research, I discovered the rather annoying reason. If you're using an nForce3 motherboard then you can't get 5.1 out of the onboard soundchip via SPDIF (which is what I was trying to do). The only thing that outputs a DD signal is DVDs or other genuine DD encoded audio. Any other signal sent via SPDIF (like HL2's audio) is reduced to mere Pro Logic.

Looks like the unused PCI slot in my SN95G5 will soon play host to an Audigy2.

I was looking at the Steam site and one thing it mentioned was freezing - its answer was to turn the Wireless Zero service off (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services). Don't know whether this will help or not though. Also if you have 4x AA turned as I did then probably turn it off. It is really not going to make a noticeable difference especially when you're running around and may have a noticable difference (my spec is slightly higher than yours).

Still having the annoying authenticating DVD problem which means I can only play about 1 in 4 attempts. Anyone else with this?
