I haven't even checked the console commands, I've had no need for any just yet. Maybe Gabe Newell felt some sort of homage was required, after they seemingly (Yet subtly) ripped into Doom3 in that latest Gamespot feature?

I'm weeping. Have fun guys it does sound like something very very special indeed. I remember dragging out HL1 for ages. Infact I played it co-op style with a mate. I was on mouse and he was on keyboard. Made the jumping sections pretty tough He'd come over every night and we'd play till 4am or so. Happy days

I got the Half-Life 2 blues:

Bought it yesterday at midday.
Home from work and installed by 6pm.
Online via 56k modem at a connection speed of 28.8 maximum (for some irritating reason).
Got around 75% of the way through the Steam update twice before being disconnected.
Had to go out to a gig at 7.30.
Got home at midnight.
Had to get up for work at 7.30.

Please tell me I'll get it up and running between when I get home at 5ish and when I need to go out for the England match at 8.15...

I would imagine that most of the demand has dropped off now. The site is a lot faster, and the forums are now up and running so I assume some amount of normality has been resumed. I know some people who took hours last night on broadband though, so I wouldn't be too hopeful just yet.

Scant consolation as it may be, console yourself with the fact that the wait is utterly, utterly worth it.

For all my own personal skepticism and moaning about the authentication, I have to say that I didn't have any trouble with it whatsoever. Most suprising.

I'm thinking I should be playing on Hard, Normal, is just a breeze, and when you do get killed, YOU GET KILLED, i.e. a no win, I need to rethink this approach killed, not a oooo I ran out of health killed.

I'd say hard is about the right level, although it'd be nice to unlock a harder one on completion DMC style.
Halo 1/2 are no harder (except Halo 2 legendary co-op).

Does the game get graphically more whore-ish later? Will performance start to suffer?
