I admit the animations in Fifa10 are wonderful and it feels free, but beating a man is so much better, easier and more satisfying in PES2010 than Fifa10 imo. I think they both have good and bad points.

You're right, they both have good and bad points, but FIFA has far more good than bad compared to PES. And I wouldn't say it's better or more satisfying to beat your man in PES, purely because it's, as you say, easier. And yes, the animation on FIFA 10 is great, but the complete opposite is true for PES 2010, where the animation is horrendous; people don't run like that. PES 2010 looks nice when it isn't moving, and I daresay the lighting is better, but as soon the game kicks off it resembles football about as much as Accrington Stanley resemble Manchester United...

edit: Also, your argument about PES 2010 steamrollering FIFA for 'likenesses' is fairly hypocritical. Way back when ISS/PES was considered the king, it was FIFA that had all the 'glitzy graphics' and the all the licences, and all PES fans (myself included) said it's about gameplay, not graphics or licenced teams with real names. But now that FIFA has caught up in the gameplay department, PES fanboys don't want to hear it.

PES's gameplay mechanics, the animation, the whole game, is ALL last gen, prettied up a little. PES 2010 is mutton dressed as lamb. FIFA 10 is the real deal. It's a shame, because Seabass does (or at least, he used to) know how football should be played, but it appears the team at Konami are clueless, and have been ousted by a handful of Brits and team of ... Canadians! Shocking!!

Maybe you haven't given it much time or you're too used to FIFA, but saying that the game does not play like football is pretty effin harsh. Passing in triangles, doing passes and immediately making a run (something FIFA adopted using same L1 + pass), super-cancelling weaving runs along the opponents' backline in order to lose defnders (again adopted by FIFA), the game does play some very decent footy. Comparing that aspect to FIFA, it sure stands up. It fails when comparing animations, licenses etc.

Maybe the comparison you made was to do with looks?

Nope. I used to be the biggest PES fanboy. I only switched to FIFA last year when the 09 games came out. I've been playing the PES games far longer than I have the FIFA's and I've given both '10 demos a hammering. FIFA is streets ahead.

Why is so important to some people (not just here, but practically every PES thread anywhere these days) that we all should prefer FIFA?

I've bought both each year for the past 3 years and enjoy them both for different reasons. I love FIFA09 and play the online clubs several times a week (my current team has nearly 200 matches to it's name now and it's only a couple of months old to give you some idea how much I play this game).

But if I want some offline football or some 1v1 with a friend I simply prefer PES2009. I can't really explain why that is, but FIFA just can't match it in those areas for me. I prefer how it plays, I prefer the shooting and satisfaction when scoring, and I prefer the connection my lineup and formations have on the way my matches play out. Players feel more different from one another in PES, or at least they do to me.

There's nothing wrong in preferring PES, it's not a bad game at all, just different to FIFA. Why is that such a problem for many? To me it's like saying you shouldn't enjoy PGR and play Gran Turismo instead....

Fifa brought be a pro clubs into the genre, starting with 5 vs 5, and now 10 vs 10 online!

Criticise Fifa if you want, but goodness me you cannot complain about the way they are going with the multiplayer!

Most people I know that like both games end up playing PES for the master league and Fifa for the online!

That's why I said in the same room, not online.

This is an excellent point and why Konami have pissed me off. They invented practicaly everything Fifa has to offer and yet EA and done it so much better and i dont know where it all went wrong.
I was playing some of the older W.E titles last night and they are simply better games. OK they lack a few of the extra skills of late but the games look(animation wise) and play better.

I keep going back and forth between this and the Fifa demo, and as much as there are many things i prefer about Fifa (the through balls are class, the presentation and graphics in general are great) im still finding myself preferring the gameplay of Pro Evo.

I guess it stems back to all those years ive spent with it learning the intricacies and honing my skills. Its like an old friend. Its far from perfect, but i just feel so much more at ease with it.
