This is the first animal crossing game I have really played and I am finding it difficult to get into. Nothing seems to be happening, Im just wandering about a tiny village with a bug net and picking up shells off the beach. I feel like I am missing somthing, everyone who likes the series seems to go on about the ammount of content and stuff to do. But I can't seem to find anything to do at all.

Well I fell asleep and didn't managed to do anything except sell some perfect apples at another friend's village for 3000 a piece (!).
AC is all about collecting everything and having your house maxed out. For the first few days you can't do much, just plant what you can and talk to your villagers.

My bamboo should be sprouting again today so I'll get that harvested after I'm done school for the day. Anyone up late can give me a hand if they like, and I'll help them start their own forest

Yep, you're right. For me, previous AC games became their strongest when the game had settled and the main early objectives were complete and main upgrades had happened. Because from there it becomes a game you can just dip in and out of for 15 minutes or so a day or every couple of days and it's just a nice relaxing trip. Like a visit to another place. Like a break from real life!

catch fish, bugs
Dig up fossils, presents, shells
Enter competitions to see who can catch the biggest fish / best bug, get a prize if you win
Trade turnips on the stock market
Decorate your house. Dress yourself, have a new haricut
change the town theme tune / flag
send and receive gifts from your friends on here
plant trees, pick fruit.
talk to other people in the town
visit other people's towns
take a boat trip to an island
see special events at certain times of the year
build snowmen in winter
and other crap like the above. There is no more to it than that. That's the game. No boss battles, no end game
Make your town and house and yourself look cool. That's it.
If none of that appeals to you you shouldn't have bought the game :-)

Now you can also:
Go to the K.K. Disco!
Listen to K.K. live on Saturday nights (Club 444 required for both)
Build snowwomen/showchildren and have a full snowfamily
Have other obects built in the town like the solar panels I just had installed (126000 bells was a little steep though, and I discovered the Reset Centre is 368000...)
Play minigames on the island to win medals to trade for special items

If anyone wants a tastefully designed Bordersdown long sleeved jersey, same colours as the one modelled by this hunk (http://www.bordersdown.net/threads/1...closeups-added), check out Abel Sisters emporium in my town. Be open later tonight, bout 8ish.
