The first thing I did was play the first level of World Tour.
It's great, gives you a feeling like Duplo does compared to Lego.

It will get easier. It certainly did on the DC version for me!

Here's my zen master drilling trick. Its not the blocks you drill its the ones you can't. If you can link four of those together they disappear. Master that and 500 miles will be yours.

Mr. Driller for PSX is 10.00 US it might give an intro the gameplay, it is considerably easier than Drill Land.

It's the RPG that gets me

I do fine until the boss at the end, and I just get nowhere. Am I meant to kill the Blue\Red blocks when it is on a Blue\Red patch of bricks? Hard to explain what I really mean...

I've done 500m on this level before, but after destroying my save I can't do it again. Really annoying as the music in Haunted House 2 bloody rocks.

Just got this and seem to get stuch at the bottom of a pit all the time ft: (first scenario)

                  ie.
Got to a boss gate, no key = stuck
Got to goat(?) holding boss key, defeat then stuck

Do you have to leave blocks to climb back out? If so HARD

                  Music is ACE though

Look at the color of the Boss' glow, then use the destroy-blocks drystal of the same color. I found on level two I had to replay a dual colored 'room' (because they're the easiest) over and over to collect enough destroy-block drystals to beat him. The boss encounter itself doesn't offer up enough drystals after level 1.

The things with the red cyrstals next to them, destroy blocks, the green ones restore your life and the the blue ones change colors, I never bothered with the gold one. It owned me for my while my advice save up all the stuff and just the blue/gold? -I forget because I'm at work- one with a kanji - kanji symbol that warps you back up to the top until you can find your way to end boss.

Beat the little dragon, get the key find your way to the big lock. Battle boss. Do the happy dance. The trick to beating the boss is to change the blocks all one color like Red, then destroy them with said crystal. Using the Red crystal to destroy the red blocks messes up that cool boss.

I hope that was helpful to some extent. It took me like 200 tries to beat Draruga but it was rewarding when it was done. This all would be infinitely easier if I was japanese.

There is a blue drystal you will find at the bottom of all 'rooms' that warps you back to the beginning of any visited room.

You need the key to get through the gate, and you need to kill the...goat (lol) to get that.
Returning to the top is easy as pie - there should be a blue stone which looks something like ?-? that will take you to the map screen, select the 'section' you wish to teleport to and away you go.

Thanks for the tips on the boss.

that's right. it has the shortest name - just two (of the same) characters separated by a hyphen.

i love mr driller. but i also hate mr driller because i lost my save yesterday (had all but cleared level 2). and because i want to play star driller on infinite mode, but must complete drindy adventure on level 3 first! my lass loves driller (got her hooked on '2' & 'ace' [gba]) and races are always swear-a-thons between us. my (6 yo) niece loves mr driller too, because he says 'lucky'...

most importantly though, it's real good to see that someone else (other than people i've persuaded ) appreciates driller's virtues.

Driller is a very cool game.

I came by a couple of pal psone promos of the first game and got me and my mates completely hooked on it.

I never managed 1000m with that, but came very close (986m I think).

The mantra 'don't think, feeeel' is very true with Driller, you have to become one with the game and feel your way through it.

When it was released I grabbed the DC version. Much prettier than the psone, same incredible music. I swear the intro on the psone version is actually recorded off the DC! The DC intro looks like its rendered in real time, unless its a very high quality movie. Finally cracked 1000m with this.

I haven't picked up any of the game boy releases, but I'm very tempted.

The GBC is just a port of the original right?

Then theres Mr Driller 2 and Mr Driller Ace on the gba, I've played 2 a little, and I was quite impressed with it. I'm still waiting for it to get a release outside of Japan...

I'm going to have to track the jpn versions I guess

Now I'm hooked again on Drill Land. Level 3 is a git, I can't get much beyond 1000m at the moment, let alone 2000m
