The people that have had problems seem to be due to corrupt data on the hdd rather than having bricked consoles.

Still bloody annoying but at least it's easy to remedy and doesn't result in any damage.

Yeah, my console isn't 'bricked' as such, it's the hard drive but i'm still getting a replacement next week under warranty. I suppose it's not too bad if your machine isn't under warranty and all you need is a replacement hardrive....

Still a bit of a pain though. A bit gutted i've lost all my saves

if you've lost all your saves anyway, you might as well have kept the machine really and just formatted the drive at home (if you had a PC or enclosure with SATA)

Would Pc world format the drive for me, do you think. To be honest , I might get a 120gb replacement myself in the next few days and just cancel the replacement console. Not sure.

A sata enclosure would only be about £15 at most, cheaper than what you'd pay PC world to format it I'd imagine.

Isn't that the same news we've had already and been discussing in here?

                    Right.

Downloaded the update yesterday. My PS3 no longer recognises audio cd's and sometimes doesn't boot up. If I eject the audio cd (manually) then put a game in (MGS4 for instance) it no longer recognises that either. Same goes for USB memory sticks. Putting in an audio cd seems to absolutely cripple the PS3 with 2.40. Everything works fine as long as you don't put an audio cd in, the oddest of the odd.

That's a successful install, and it's not working properly. Don't know if anyone else has had this particular problem.

If all else fails give the HDD a format Izayoi. That seems to be the only fix at the moment for this firmware.

Yeah, seems like a backup (If possible) followed by format is the recommended fix if you can't wait for 2.40 to be posted again.

Ooer have updated 2.4 (when it was up) and then I tried to play Super Stardust HD. It asked me to update (a nice 260mb or whatever it was) so I started the download off. Checked back later and it had errored. Re-started the game and it never asked me to patch but saw no sign of trophies, or anything to indicate that the game had updated (should I see trophies on the main menu?). So I deleted the game save and the game data, then the game itself and went to the store to re-download it. Started it off and again it errored.

Is not being able to download another "feature" of 2.4 or is it just my crappy router?

I did the Stardust update fine but it wiped my save data off my console, was a bit miffed cause i put a good 20 hours into that game, but all my online high scores were still there so not the end of of the world.

What's the deal with this 2.4 then? I've been away for some time and not followed it at all. Am I safe to update? I've got almost 320GB worth of saves and I'm not looking to lose them you see.
                              Kept you waiting, huh?

The update's been pulled from the auto-update, so unless you get hold of a downloaded version there's no way of doing it anyway. No word from Sony on a new ETA either.
