The thing was that my problem was only happening if I signed into the network, then signed out and signed back in without switching the PS3 back on (watching a BD film, for example). Probably just a coincidence that it's only just started happening since the update, but I'll see if it keeps happening after disabling the thingy anyway.

While I'm not overly impressed with the PS1/2 upscaling (looks a lot clearer letting my TV do the scaling, never been a fan of edge smoothing aka blurring), does anyone know how well it handles SotC?
This game doesn't really looks very nice on any LCD as you know, curious at how well the internal scaler does with it.

Toying with the idea of trading my PAL game w/ art cards etc for an NTSC-U copy to use on my PS3.

I don't really notice much of a difference on PS2 games, they just look slightly blurred, but PS1 games are a marked improvement over how they used to look.

Well, for me personally it looks stunning, got it at 720p, 60Hz Prog Scan on and........Very nice indeed.

Here's a curious thing - if you enable the PS2 upscaling, Tomb Raider Anniversary will disable the Progressive Scan mode. If you enable it Progressive Scan, the game will throw itself down to 480p.

What this means is that it can only upscale a 480i input, not a 480p one.

Yup, it does the same thing with Outrun 2 SP too. The normal 480p progressive picture looks better than the upscaled one though.

Same. I was hoping it would get rid of the boardering when in 480p mode though.

Not sure if this is at all related?

On Capcom Classics Collection Vol II there is the option to play the games in 480p but when I enable this option via HDMI I just get a black screen for some reason.

Is there a way around this that anybody knows of?

It now plays DTS as PCM on dvd's just like it does with Blu-rays

I have a Japanese console, so 'emotion engine' and all, thus it working.

Firmware 1.82 due soon - adds AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) playback support. Plus a bit more PS2 gaming compatibility.

Considering how poor the lineup is it wouldnt hurt to do some more ps2 compatability

I think each firmware update is adding support for more games, they're just not detailing which. Are they updating the BC lists with the updates?
