Latest PS3 Firmware Updates

Have you tried hooking it up on composite to the TV to see if you get anything that way? Do you have multiple profiles that require you to press a button to select when you start up? Simple stuff but worth checking.

When you say the sound dies down - does the sound finish or die down while it should still be playing?

Also - I guess try it on another TV set if possible.

Yes I got 2 profiles, one for US store and one for EU store. I don't even get to this screen though. I hooked up the thing to composite during that phone call, didn't work either. The sound of the PS3 starting up dies down while it should still be running and it makes an unusual silent noise after that I can't describe, it isn't the same as the silent sound it used to make.

Haven't tried another TV set yet, that isn't directly accesible atm either.
Just checked if another console (N64) works on the same composite connection I used for the PS3 on my TV and it works fine, so the problem isn't in the TV I guess.

As for the HDMI part, I can't switch to that channel on my TV unless something is activated on it. Even in its current broken PS3 state the TV still allows me to switch to the HDMI channel once the PS3 is turned on like it did before it messed up.

Hmm, definitely doesn't sound promising. Like you say though, it doesn't seem likely to have been a borked firmware update as you've played it since the installation.

There must be some way of doing some sort of factory reset, surely.

I can't get to the 3x beep stage. I get the turn on beep, then the beep you get 5 seconds later (LED still green) then I get another beep like 30 secs later that it's going back to stand by (red LED). But I don't get 3 beeps in a row in a shorter timeframe, I held the button for like 1-2mins after the standby beep, nothing happened. I do remember getting a few beeps in a row when I was playing around with the AV or HDMI cable but didn't think much of it since I didn't know of this hard reset method at that time and can't seem to copy that event to see what happens. Though if something did happen that one time I should have noticed on the screen I think, not sure if I checked.

I sometimes get a "wrong HDD inserted" message but it has not popped up so far since 1.92

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, 1.93 is apparently coming out this week.

1.93 is now up on the EU servers, went to check to see if the Fifa 08 Demo was up and couldn't because you need to update to 1.93 to find out so I'm doing that now..

Can someone check something? i played the fifa demo expecting my hs animated vid to stop downloading as normal but it carried on. ithought gameplay stopped downloads

Doesn't it usually do that?

I thought it was just Blu-ray/DVD usage that stopped the downloading...

I thought it would carry on unless you were doing something that either used, or disconnected from, the network connection?

I was viewing a few photos off a CD last night - the whole photo album thing is ace! Apart from one thing. I really wish it supported RAW format because I couldn't view most of the photos Definitely something to add to my wish-list.

These FW updates are a bit out of control are they not ? Fire up the console for a game of Sigma and have 10 minutes of downtime waiting for the firmware code to download and install.

That's like two in the last week I've had.

What does this one do ? Again, no docs or owt to tell you what it fixes/improves/adds.
