Yeah but you can't play them on the go.

Have you not considered the fact then if I didn't know about Sumioni that Sony haven't done a good enough job of advertising it? It's not as if I avoid gaming websites either.

And I never said that Japanese titles didn't count, just games that already existed on other platforms. If you like obscure Japanese genres and titles like I know you do then that's great, genuinely, the Vita and Sony's other systems are probably perfectly suited to you.

Now how about the other 90 odd percent of us?

Edit: damn this thread is moving fast

I picked up a 3DS for several reasons. Firstly I wanted to finally finish Ocarina of Time and the 3DS houses the best version. Also the console was a limited edition Zelda machine and it only cost me ?169 new. Also I picked up Ridge Racer 3D, a criminal game for ?40 but it cost me a tenner new. I can justify purchases like this.

The Vita on the other hand is expensive to buy without games then you are looking at high prices for games that I don't think are that great. Sure Wipeout and Ridge Racer are fine titles but I have better versions of the series on other machines which makes these titles worth no more than ?10 of my money.
To me the machine feels like a more powerful PSP but I don't need a more powerful PSP.
Fair enough on the Zelda front. Good enough reason for a purchase I suppose. I've never even played OoT myself, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

What about if you could get a new Vita for ?170 and Ridge Racer for ?10? Would you get one then? I know you dig your RR games, and the Vita one is miles ahead of the 3DS version.
          Kept you waiting, huh?

I happen to have both those games, and I veeeeery strongly disagree with you. Better framerate, a real single-player mode and tons of tracks make the 3DS version a much better game. The only thing the Vita version has going for it is the better screen.

It isn't first-party. However, it's reviewed on this very site...

You asked how many of those games were to be Westernised. One would assume that with you being English and not multilingual, and governed by English text like you said unless you could actually play them they aren't going to be on your radar and thus would not be counted. That would probably be why you didn't know about Sumioni too.

No, but that is simply because nothing else on the machine really interest me. Also for my ?10 I still want all of the content that is available for the game because I got it all for the 3DS version. Also I use my PSP/DS and 3DS far too much to need another machine. It would take something really special to make me purchase one at the moment.

With buying the 3DS I made my hardware choice for now. As much as I love Wipeout and Ridge Racer, two franchises I have invest plenty into over the last few years, the Vita versions of the games do not match the standards I expect of a console that powerful.

J0e, you only need to check the fallout from E3 to realize that people like yourself, who have such admiration for Japanese titles are probably going to be in the minority.

People bought into the Vita for a home console experience on the move and for the moment at least it doesn't appear to be providing that outside of ports with games inexplicably missing from them *looks at Metal Gear*

I've been in the minority since 1987. TBH me arguing the toss with someone over the future of Vita is pointless as my take on it is vastly different to the views of the other 90% of you, but anyway. I gather if the western support of the Vita somehow died it would probably have an effect on me as believe it or not, I do play the same games that other people play. For instance I just bought Killzone 3, Resistance 3, and InFAMOUS 2. Albeit NTSC-J versions, but nonetheless I still own them.

I really cannot see the thing dying though, and I do find it surprising that some of you seem to actually believe it. The money that has been invested in it alone makes this an impossible notion. I'm quite sure every single console released ever has had an initial down period shortly after launch. I swear the PAL SNES only had those four games for about 12 years after launch. The Vita is no different, but people seem to be writing it off. Sure E3 was not a good situation by any means, but then I have never based my gaming upon reviews or word of mouth, so E3 matters not to me.

I don't think the machine will die just yet but the period leading up to christmas is vital I think. That handheld market has change so much it may not survive if it doesn't sell well then.

My take is the dual PS3/Vita game, as I have previously stated. It was a highly flouted feature by SCEI before Vita launch, and so far the only game that has utilised it is MotorStorm RC, and that's not even a physical game. It would go some way to eradicate having two seperate formats, although there could of course be exclusive games for both formats, which would give the best of both worlds. It would also stave off the touch screen menace that is Apple.

They also need to do something about PS1 emulation before everyone gives up caring about it.

NEC had it right with the PC Engine and PC Engine GT both being able to play the same games IMO.

Despite much of our exchange this evening, I REALLY hope you're right on this one!

Had the code off Sony today for beta little big planet vita.
graphics are good and the sound is nice and crisp.
The vita touch screen is put to good use and doesn't seem over gimmickry

Now this I like the sound of. Don't know why, but to me LBP could work ALOT better on Vita than PS3.

Can't believe I forgot about it.
