Yup this is going to affect people on a massive scale. Its my job to do networking day in and day out, so going to have a fiddle when I get chance to see if I can improve on speed+range on the settings we already have from Mark.

Crazy stupid though. Ive updated now so might change it all back and see if the update has improved anything.

So. From a technical perspective is this the worst console launch in history?

This youtube video shows the issue:

And as I use a PJ the effect is heightened further .. 'Full RGB' isn't just for PC monitors!

If you ran a game side by side on two different displays one with Limited and one with Full, you would see what I am saying, the difference is actually pretty staggering.

Don't getme wrong it won't affect my enjoyment of the WiiU, but it should be a standard feature considering the 360 and PC's have had it for a few years now.

Assuming it isn't a hardware limitation I am sure Nintendo can fix it with an update, it's not a deal breaker .. .just dissapointing .. which when it comes to the WiiU is a word that get used a lot it seems!

        Sorry that is simply wrong.

Full RGB vs Limited RGB really does make no difference that anyone will ever notice, you are simply telling the source and the display where 0ire and 100ire are, as long as you are telling them both the same thing it will be fine.

That video is completely pointless, all it shows is the guy has his display set to full RGB and so when you set the PS3 to limited the black point is 16 clicks lower than expected, or it is like upping brightness (black level) to 16 on scale of 1-255, of course it will look washed out.

As I said, it makes **** all difference, as long as you set your display and your source the same.

Same as the way NTSC has absolute black set at 54mv, which is the same as our 7.5ire in pal land, in other words grey.
You need to know the absolute black voltage to set absolute black correctly, doesn't matter where it is as long as you know.

not been following wii u stuff so no idea what it's really like but as has already been pointed out the lack of full RGB is only going to be an issue for one of two reasons:
            a) your screen doesn't support limited RGB
            b) your screen does support limited RGB but you're an idiot

In the past you either had a pc type monitor or a tv and they both used different colour spaces but the differences between the two systemsare far less obvious than they used to be.

The wii-u image would only really be an issue if your screen didn't support limited rgb but i'm not sure how likely that is these days.

the wrong set up on any system is going to change brightness (blacks) or contrast (whites) so you get either a washed out imagine or crushed blacks.

I'm surprised the Wii-u doesn't support both but I suppose that sort of practiceis standard for Nintendo these days as they do tend to spend as little money as possible on the hardware the produce.

Loving everything so far , nintendo have really made this console great, all the positive things are way more than the few negative ones.

I don't think I could be told anything that would make this launch seem worse, unless the box also contained bear flu or something.

                  Yup, the website says this:

Connect your Wii U console to the Internet and perform a system update ? this will add Nintendo eShop to your Wii U Menu. Link your Nintendo Network ID to your Club Nintendo account, which will register your console with Club Nintendo.

A lot of scientists reckon humans can see up to about 10 million colours so the limited RGB range is enough anyway. We probably can't even make use of the full RGB settings. I still reserve the right to be outraged by its absence in WiiU however.

Amazon have e-mailed me a code to download Nintendo Land as it seems some of their Premium sets shipped without. Whilst I'd be pretty peeved if I was in that camp, I now have both a code and a disk!
