"New Super Luigi U" for example is DLC-only but a little Luigi figure in a box that you can hold to the Wii U controller and it automatically downloads the DLC would be a big sell for a lot of Nintendo fans/collectors. Or Pikmin figures that give you VC releases of Pikmin or Pikmin 2, I'd be first in-line for Rhythm Tengoku or a Minish Cap figure that gave me the GBA game on Wii U VC even if it cost ?9.99 rather than the ?3 or ?5 the game alone would actually cost.
So we have to buy toys to get games now? ?_?
    Kept you waiting, huh?

      I'd be last in line.

I still think it would be a good system. I embrace digital (I don't own a single CD or DVD infact) but I do like that physical part of games, the packaging is bright and colourful and uniform. It'd be nicer to open a drawer of little boxes (no bigger than a matchbox maybe) that showed me what games I own, so I can choose one, push it against my Wii U controller and have that game start through HDMI without having to keep 4 or 5 different Nintendo consoles set up. They'd also be good for gifting or getting kids into retro, my 9 year-old cousin probably wouldn't be interested in the Excitebike icon sat on my Wii U but if I gave him a little plastic 8-bit block Excitebiker he could use to play the game I bet he'd play the crap out of it.

We weren't all gaming in the 80s, if Nintendo aren't going to get the support from 3rd parties as they historically haven't why not make VC releases more of a prestige thing with a bit of fan-fare? Kids and collectors would lap it up. There are Wind Waker Gachapons going on eBay for well over ?30, Tiny Pikmin figure sets going for ?100s... If the NFC chip was a license, not a d/l code, it could also placate people who complain about digital purchases being locked to Wii U consoles not accounts.

They'd hack it soon enough, so a single chip could unlock everything.

The Wii U would just read the NFC chip for a product code and unique identifier/password corresponding to that one piece of content, it's not a back entry into the Wii U system, Nintendo Network would tie the identifiers to a console until de-authorized and if an NFC chip had any data other than a 40-digit code for the info above the Wii U would just ignore it. It'd be as safe as any other DRM. If the Wii U system is secure/robust the NFC chips are just a fancy barcode Nintendo can check/response.

I still think it'd be a good system for Nintendo. Skylanders isn't a great game but if you go to Tesco/Sainsburys there's more space given to Skylanders figures than Wii U games, if you're lucky to find one that stocks Wii U games in the first place, my local Tesco and Asda both have dozens of Skylanders figures out but no Wii U games :S Sainsbury's stock Wii U consoles and games but more space is given to Skylanders. The figure could also unlock things in a Nintendo Land patch/sequel as well as give you the VC game. I can't see why it wouldn't at least help sell Wii Us to kids at Christmas. It's no worse than Furbys, Pokemon Cards, Pogs or half the crap kids liked when I was at school.

I bought the super Mario world last night, even though I have it on snes cart and on the the 360 as a emulater, I just wanted to use the wiiU gamepad for a little while, it plays nice enough, just completed the 2nd castle, this will be the 1st time I go for completing all 96 levels since it came out 20 odd years ago..

Well I got the 96 bit right

I have got to the stage where I have well too many options of games to play atm, I got 12 3DS games last week, plus WiiU lego city ive not hardly touched, trying to finish the 8th world of 3D Mario world now, then ill crack on with SMW tonight when the toddler has gone bed..

Any ideas when Super Metroid is due for release, I hope that's the 30p game and not a ?6 download..

                    It's the July 30p game, I believe?

                        Oh Nintendo, begging letters? Really?

                        Bit desperate :/

Doesn't read like a begging letter to me, just advertising. They've identified that they haven't done enough to highlight the differences between the systems to the public so are attempting to rectify it. Seems fair enough to me - although whether the people they're targeting will actually have their Wii's connected to the net to receive the message is another question.

Surely the people who'll be getting the letter will already know what a Wii U is, considering they need to use a Wii U to view the letter...

The letter is delivered to original Wiis, not Wii Us. That would be silly otherwise. I like the Wii message board (guessing it's still around on the U), especially the notes you got for completing games like Galaxy 2.

Surely the majority of the people that don't know what a Wii-U is probably never bothered connecting the original to the net in the first place
