No-one would be saying that are wonderful consoles with amazing launch line up's .
It's actually not fair. The industry is geared toward few formats and worldwide launches. As a result, devs all over have kits early and time to make games.

When SNES came out there was MS,NES, MD, PCE, Neo Geo, GB, GG,Lynx, Amiga, Atari St, PC and many more. It would have been impossible for small companies to have more products, especially with manufacturing costs.

When the PS2 came out we also had a larger amount of formats than now and 3D was still evolving, the industry itself was growing and many ideals and features were still in their infancy. Yet it still had a good launch.

Now, when the PS4 and Xbone have launched. The infrastructure is in place. Online is standard. HD is standard. Their are less formats than ever, the industry is bigger than ever, yet they still can't release decent original products for them.

I'm expecting E3 next year to be defined less by amazing true next gen experiences and more by the sheer volume of announcements of software that won't make it to current gen machines. Now the new machines are out and the initial seduction phase is over I expect Sony and MS to set about effectively forcing people to climb aboard the new machines. They'll look at the PS3/360, think of their desire to get the biggest foothold in place for the next 5yrs and say 'If they bleed, we can kill them'

It won't be until 2015 when good games come out, the same as every other console ever. It's no different this time around. I don't know why you're even arguing about it.

Anyway, I was the only person who had a PS2 on launch day, and TTT wasn't a launch game.

Yeah there will be a lot of releases hampered by cross generation development for the next year or two.

Naughty dog will usher it in properly i imagine.

No but it's a valid point none the less.

Did you get it before Sony finished making it? Like always.

These days developers have way more formats to develop for

When SNES came out there was MS,NES, MD, PCE, Neo Geo, GB, GG,Lynx, Amiga, Atari St, PC and many more. It would have been impossible for small companies to have more products, especially with manufacturing costs
Well small corps like CORE did a very good job of supporting a lot of formats all at the same time and there were a tiny British company - You not see the likes of that being able to be done in this day and age

The infrastructure is in place. Online is standard. HD is standard. Their are less formats than ever
Huh ? You have the Vita, the Wii U, the 360, The PS3, The XBox one , the PS4, Apple and android, the 3DS . Hardly any different from when the PS2 launched imo .

The infrastructure is in place. Online is standard. HD is standard. Their are less formats than ever, the industry is bigger than ever, yet they still can't release decent original products for them.
Being totally silly . When the PS2 launched CRT was standard ,3D was standard , PS2 development was standard for most developers, and it still took them the best part of a year to get decent software, much less anything that showed what the system could do or anything that could outclass the DC.

It really took until DMC in 2001 for the PS2 true WOW moment

Anyway, I was the only person who had a PS2 on launch day, and TTT wasn't a launch game
TTG wasn't a launch game it came a few weeks latter :P. Street Fighter EX3 was the PS2 fighting launch game.

I clearly said that TTT wasn't a launch game. SF EX3 is a better game than most people think. There was an incredible amount of hidden content that nobody had the slightest idea was in it until much later. Onimusha came out seven months before DMC did and I thought it was the better title personally.

I think one thing we shouldn't forget here regarding great games at launch is the development time of games in general but particularly top quality ones ares much longer than they used to be therefore the days of having a masterpiece on launch are long gone simply as they take longer to develop. Even if companies have a year to make them before the launch that's still no where near enough time and it's only gonna get worse as we go forward to the next generation.
