    Edited for accuracy

My boy is seven and doesn’t think they’re cool at all. The detachable functionality is just ‘normal’ to him, as that’s what he was born into. He uses the Pro controller unless his friends are here.

It was obviously an awesome idea though, especially the way they sold it with that October 2016 reveal. I just think it would be nice to be presented another option/format for enjoying their software after the initial buzz wares off. The reveal of the Lite gave me hope for a non-portable - so hopefully this time us older farts get something.

One thing he does think is SUPER COOL is the 3DS. He’s not allowed near it though because his mum thinks it’s going to destroy his eyesight. 🙄

It’s built within the first screen. That’s what’s going to give us glasses-free 3D when portable!

Well, fair enough. I don't have a kid. I just think that out-of-the-box two player is something I would have really liked cos when we/I were kids, you either needed a second pad - which sometimes you or your friend didn't have, or it was just a dog **** Mad Catz one that didn't work properly - or you needed them to also have a Gameboy, and the same game, and you needed a link cable between you. Often the stars didn't align, and there wasn't much you could do cos it wasn't like you had a credit card and a car and could pop to the nearest Electronics Boutique and sort it.

Just being able to play two player straight off, nothing extra required whatsoever - I'd have absolutely loved that, and I thought it was really cool that Nintendo made it happen.

My kids are the same in that they wouldn't blink if the joycons didn't detach. The idea, if you're happpy with the uncomfortable single joycon design, is nice but practically speaking the Switch screen is ill suited to having multiple people craning over it.

The main good thing about the detachability is the ability to swap them out when they knacker. There's absolutely no way my money would ever go near a Switch Lite for that alone.

My kids also have the same view of the 3DS. They play 2DS all the time but the 3DS is like something sent down by the Gods to them. It's forbidden fruit 3D screen calls to them all the time and yet they remain denied

Definitely. It's at the point where it's probably taken for granted now with so many people utilising it. If they went back to a more traditional design it'd be seen as a massive step back and a potential F-you! to their market.

Digital Foundry reacts to the extraordinary Nintendo Switch 2 hardware leaks. They're almost certainly genuine, but what does it mean for the final product?

A lot of the focus there is on why it's so big and it's a good question. I don't know how many people would feel the need for a larger Switch. I certainly don't. But it sounds like there are quite a few reasons for its size not actually related to whether anyone wants that or not.

I’d rather a smaller one with better joycons personally, must be bigger for the new hardware I would have thought.

They are probably aiming for a larger size to have more passive heat dissipation, though being larger and heavier will kill portability, especially for kids.

You know how devices like Alexa can be used to control your houselights? How viable would a peripheral, on a similar basis, be for console?

I'm thinking scenarios like you're playing a horror game and as you enter a room the lights flicker both in the room on screen and in your actual living room.

Oh **** lol is my wildcard prediction of wireless TV docking coming true?

mmWave is used for wireless HDMI.

Willing to bet this is the new dock.

Honestly it would make complete sense, you can have the switch next too you and just, switch, when someone want the big screen for something else. (Pun fully intended).

The WiiU3 is on its way.
