Also not to be morbid or point out the dam obvious, but why is the company that’s supposed to be the safe bet for your kids playing online, putting a camera out there day one for online chat? I give it, 10 seconds on day one launch before some kid is exposed too by someone 😒

Nintendo Switch 2: Thread 01

It's not entirely there but a lot of this has an air of 'Real' Nintendo i.e the greedy one that emerges every time they pull into market lead and ultimately ruins it for them by over stretching it with publishers and consumers.
For our household, my view is that the Switch 2 will ultimately pass to the kids once the inevitable Switch 2 OLED update hits in 2028 or whenever so a lot of restrictions etc don't land the same because it will ultimately be their unit and they aren't impacted by most of it. Thankfully Nintendo are also universally awful at hardware security so by the time I get my own solo unit any potential region locking will inevitably have been broken.
I'm definitely fine not bothering paying them for the systems interactive manual either, when the makers of the $700+ console look generous with their Day One inclusion...
Nintendo Switch 2 console/games listings at Walmart (preorders start April 9th) buff.ly/bB4ZQOg #ad Kirby/Mario Party Jamboree/Tears of the Kingdom (Switch 2 Editions) listed at $79.99 each in addition to Mario Kart World. Bravely Default & SF6 confirmed game-key cards for US release (no gamedata
A fair few NS2 versions of NS1 games are being set at $80 suggesting a $10 charge for the NS2 performance updates and another $10 for games with NS2 expansions
Screens of Donkey Kong Bananza:
Now, as much as I like the look of the game - Nintendo is never going to convince me that this isn't a Switch 1 title tarted up to flesh out the Switch 2 launch period line up.
Coming from Hori:
This one - personally I didn't think it was a great trailer, being too unclear on what it was. Finding out it's another Fromsoft multiplayer game... zero interest
The World/Track structure for Mario Kart World
New screens:
Nintendo Switch games compatibility
The backwards compatibility image in the Direct seems to have accidentallly revealed that Poochy& Yoshi's Woolly World HD is going to be announced for Switch 1
Also - Some retailers in the UK such as Smyths, Very and possibly ShopTo appear to have gone early and have sold out pre-orders

Watched the Switch 2 Direct late last night.
Ultimately a lot of cold water poured on it for me that I won't be going all-in on it day one.
No real surprises with the hardware. Screen really ought to have been OLED. It's depressing that Nintendo are cynical enough to hold that back for a potentially more expensive "Switch 2 OLED" model later down the line. Glad that we're moving on from needing Discord and sh1tty mobile phone apps for online gaming chat. Can't say I care about the camera accesory though.
Even the most ardent Nintendo Defense Forcers on here need to get used to the fact that Nintendo are quite clearly actively prepping for an all-digital future. Game Key Cards (and Virtual Cards) are a sure-fire sign of this and big red flags IMO.
Also not a fan of the idea of the JPN-only Switch 2 hardware. I've heard talk about it being because of the Trump tariffs but that just doesn't hold up IMO, especially when we all know Nintendo have form for this kind of crap. For me, Switch 2 is an absolute non-starter if western hardware is region-locked. I literally cannot go back to that with Nintendo, not when I have JPN and US Nintendo Accounts and Switch software. My 2017 Switch is falling apart at this point so I have no qualms buying a Switch 1 OLED and making do with that.
No real qualms with the major standout games. We FINALLY get to move on from Mario Kart 8/Mario Kart 8 Reheated and DK Bananza does look good even if I do wish it were a 3D Mario instead. Having to pay premium pricing + extra for uprezzed BOTW and/or TOTK is pure p1ss taking but Nintendo were always going to try something like this once their trick of reheating the entire WiiU back catalogue had expired. Expect more of this to come with Switch 1 titles if they feel enough people will cough up.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 03-04-2025, 06:51.

Overall a solid announcement, though what actually comes out on launch remains to be seen.
Also the pack in demo game thing that isn’t a pack in but a paid thing is a cynical move by Nintendo, its literally a direct rip off of Astro Playroom idea, but without the fun, and itle cost you.Last edited by fishbowlhead; 03-04-2025, 07:21.

The more I think about this one, the less appealing it seems at launch.
If there was a theme yesterday, it was forking over once again for old ****. A lot of old PS5 software, a couple of GameCube ISOs (including Wind Waker, which they already did an HD version of on WiiU!), a remaster of frickin Bravely Default - a 3DS game - of all things, the very first Ridge Racer, and the chance to rebuy/pay to upgrade a few Switch 1 greatest hits.
One of the few entirely new pieces of software appears to be a way of spending a tenner in order to look at tool tips about the various types of metals and plastics used in the construction of the Switch 2.
Is it me? Am I just old and boring now? If I was 12, maybe it would seem a lot cooler. It is a kid's toy primarily, after all. Maybe I'm just a jaded old bastard.
I do really want Mario Kart World though. That looks brilliant. I just don't want to fork over £430 to play it.
