Graphics in videogames are now so good that I find myself really not caring at all about incremental increases in resolution and texture quality that ML might afford.

One thing I would say though is that while AI is now a buzzword generally, of course we've been talking about it in the context of videogame NPCs for decades. And yet the technology has not progressed very much at all. I wonder if built in ML chips and gen AI might open up some interesting gameplay possibilities in terms of what NPCs can do and how they react to the player, either in actions or speech.

Or even how environments deform and change during, e.g. a firefight (always seems weird to me that you lob a grenade into a room in CoD and the walls and floors are totally undamaged).

    That would be cool.

I really doubt the game would come back as they had 8 years to get it to the way it is.....I am not sure there have been many launch disasters like this just with lack of players and not from bugs or crashes

Good lord, it’s done worse than even rumoured then for them to just take it offline and refund everyone, has Sony ever done this before? I can’t say I can recall a single case of this.

AI is both one of the most revolutionary jumps we may yet make, and also one of the most oversold jumps in machine history.

The article above (Quoting bits from DF Podcast) mentions the current consoles oversold their 4K 60 FPS abilities. When I built my PC back in 2019, all the reviews of the current range of GPU Cards used tests of the then current Gears of War (Among other games like Battlefield 1 etc.) running in Ultra Settings on 4K Monitors, and they all struggled to maintain 60 FPS on the latest Nvidia and AMD Cards. I decided then to buy a really nice 1440 Monitor so I could have games on great settings but maintain a smooth frame rate as PC GPU's clearly couldn't handle 4K Ultra either.

The point being, people get so flustered about the current range of consoles, yet PC's were / are still struggling as games always push the boundaries of what acceptable performance is.

The currant range of consoles and GPU's are brilliant, you just can't always accept to turn all games up to Ultra and wonder why they don't run at 340FPS / Hz like CS:GO / CS2.

Gonecord, i’m surprised they even went ahead with the launch considering how badly the beta did. I’d be surprised if anyone try’s to do make a hero shooter after the mess that the genre is in.

I wonder if by removing it from sale and refunding they can do what film studios have been doing with finished projects, burying them and using them as a tax write off.

Valve are about to try with Deadlock, invite only playtest seems to be generating a buzz even with unfinished assets, seems having a gimmick (npc fodder to shoot like gearboxs battleborn), working classes and nice looking art (even unfinished) goes along way.

as for concord, even if was free first time round i doubt few would have stuck around for such a boring, soulless game, much like sony's early ps5 flop which i had google the name of.. Destruction All Stars, at least you can still play that against bots

This has to be the biggest, mostly expensive software flop in gaming, 8 years and 300 million spent.

                  Edit-Damn mobile

Yep, PR alone means there's no comeback for this. We'll likely get those next reveals soon as well to bury this news before the Xmas season looms.

Dear devs, if your all excited and thinking of the following genres to waste money on,

                    -live service.
                    -souls like.
                    -hero shooter.
-anything with loot boxes at all.

Please, burn the white board, or presentation, go out, and just don’t, otherwise I’ll have to hit you with a newspaper and shout bad dev! Bad dev! Over and over.

I had a quick look at the game. Why would you design your entire cast of characters to look like a bunch of uncool obnoxious anti-gamer pricks?

It’s not even that, it’s so utterly completely generic the characters practically have active cammo they are that unremarkable.

I haven’t played it but apparently it’s not even a bad game, technically decent and pretty polished, and plays well, so, shrugs, Its dead now.

I wonder if the disks will become collectible?
