    LG 26" Get!

and then i come back here and you guys say no HDCP over HDMI!

I don't actually know what this means, i do know what a HDMI input is but i'm not clued up on HDCP which i will go read about.

I'm sure it will be fine, maybe.

EDIT - Just read the ntsc-uk HDTV guide and says this:

"However, using a HDMI/DVI socket is not enough. To ensure maximum connectivity, if your TV has a DVI socket, make sure that it is ?HDCP Enabled?. High Definition Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of copy protection that communicates between the source (blu-ray player, PS3 etc) to eliminate piracy. Even if you have a DVI socket, it may not have this copy protection and that means no HD for you. Yes, despite having the correct equipment, it may still not work! "

    hmm...doesn't sound to good.

HDCP is protection format that *may* be used with Blu-Ray/HD-DVD, and will require an HDCP-compliant input.

No-one seems to know if the LG supports HDCP over HDMI at all, or through NTSC only.
Luckily the DVI supports HDCP, so we can use a 10 quid passthrough adaptor (I know there are some differences between HDMI and DVI-D).

What about upscalling DVD players such as the Samsund HD950 that use the HDMI input? will it be fine?

I think that specific DVD Player has HDCP, but can be disabled using a handset hack.

The Oppo does not have HDCP, FYI.

Don't let it worry you, the whole HDCP thing is still up in their air because so many companies are against it (lost market share because it leaves people with Component out of it... a large amount of people in the US).

I have a HD950 connected to my LG via HDMI. Surely this means the LG supports HDCP over HDMI?

You do? Cool. Good to hear actually, you should mention that at that forum, because that changes everything.

(I know the HD950 supports HDCP, or there wouldn't be a hack to disable it!).

I've tried the HD-950 on my LG 32LX2R through the HDMI socket. DVD's played fine but i could only use the 720p or 1080i option when the DVD player was set to NTSC. If i switched it to PAL mode the max i could get was 576p. It just wouldn't go any higher. Just to confirm the Region Free/HDCP Hack had been applied on the player.

Solves it then. Please give the hack a go and confirm it works fine

Looks like it's HDCP through DVI then. No biggie.

                    Here's an odd thing -

PS2 using official Scart cable. When plugged into the LG through AV1, it forces itself into Composite.
When plugged into the Argos switcher, and then into AV1, it works in lovely RGB o_O

According to someone over at avforums.com they have spoken to LG UK who confirmed the HDMI socket was not HDCP enabled.

I have the same issue, you wouldn't know if there is any sort of hack to force PAL 720p or 1080i?

Would you buy Denon 1920 DVD player or stick with Pioneer DV - 370 (Got progressive scan) as I heard about lip-sysc problem (Not sure what was it)

Regarding LG's and HDCP HDMI sockets:

Using the HD-950 player, setting it to NTSC to run DVD's in 720p, does that still mean you can play PAL DVDs as normal? If so then theres no problem there at all, just set it to NTSc and everything works fine..?

Can only vouch for Pioneer but that player spec wise is near on exactly as the DV-575A I have, the quality is supreme. Tho I have had a few sync issues......only with MPEG4/DVDR mind. Most modern AV recievers can compensate for this with delay.

I have it set to NTSC and I alternate between 720p and 1080i. Everything works fine, both my R1s and UK PAL R2s.
