God knows how I've missed this thread...

Some great stuff in here and while I have about 40 Jap Sat games, they're all shmups, so I need to start looking at a few other titles now...

Just out of interest, does anyone know if there's a site that tells you what Pal or American games don't work on a Jap Saturn via a 4 in 1 cartridge?

I know that Guardian Heroes on Pal doesn't work, but if the US one does, I'll go for that one instead. I'd also like to know if a Pal version of Panzer will work as well.

Oh, and for those that mentioned the This is Cool Saturn, I have one and while it's amazing to look at, it wont play the Japanese version of OutRun or In the Hunt (to name a few) I was absolutely gutted when I found out

I've just tried the pal guardian heroes in my mk1 grey saturn and works fine with the action replay i've got here.

The only game I know of that deffo doesn't work is the Jap version of shin shinobi den on a pal machine.

Don't worry about In the Hunt not playing because mine is a right bitch to get running too. I have the Japanese version which is 100% mint yet only rund 10% of the time. It always hangs just after the Licensed by Sega screen. I've tried it on my Gray saturn and the Hitachi Hi-Saturn with both giving the same results. maybe this game had a very bad press run? I'll make an ISO of it one day to see if that runs fine with my Magic Card II (Let's you run CDRs without any mod what so ever)

There's loads of corruption at the bottom of the screen with mine

Still, I just got the Japanese version for a tenner

Pal Guardian Heroes corrupted in 60hz on my switched Saturn. The music cocked up as well.

I sold it and bought the US version.

                you were right fella

in the hunt doesnt work on a white saturn either, it goes as far as the sega logo and the screen goes black

woe is me as its a fecking great game

played some more of radiant silvergun and i'm still not seeing how its the mother of all shooters

maybe its people trying to defend the price they paid for it

hopefully i will get into it at some point

Would that not just be because the PAL version was optimised for 50hz? I've got a feeling that the same thing happens with other PAL-optimised titles when you try and flick them into 60hz. The really odd one is PAL Puzzle Fighter, which ****s up in 60hz even though the conversion was the usual bordered Capcom trash.

HotD - Tantalus, wasn't it? If there's one thing I'll never understand about Sega during the Saturn years it's why they continued to farm out conversion work to those divvies. ManxTT - straight conversion from the arcade, with only two tracks and about half an hour's worth of content. WipEout - farked handling, made some turns impossible to get round without smacking into the sides.

I thoght Manx TT was quality when I got it, particularly the textures & music, well limited though.

That's because it's not mate. I finished it only two days ago. I can't understand why people hail it as the greatest Saturn shooter out there. It's good but no where near the best. It's also a bit boring too at times I found. I've said this once before but I'll say it again. If Radiant Silvergun wasn't made by Treasure I'm sure people wouldn't rave about it as much as they do. It's all Treasure hype.

Radiant Silvergun is awesome. I'll have words with anyone who says otherwise

I can see why it get's rubbished so much though. It's very slow-paced, and more like a puzzle game. For a supreme test of skill/scoring, there's few better, but if you like "manic" shooters, avoid it tbh.

Does anyone know WHY the later Saturns won't run some games? What's different about them?

                                Oh no it's not.

It by no means the best, but it is a great shooter. I think most people rave about it more, becasue its a showcase case for the Saturn. This must be pushing the Saturn to its limtis, with some insane graphics.

Still its no Soukyugurentai (simply the best), Layered Section, Battle Garegga but it is a top shoter
