Personally for me the saturn was, and still is my main love of videogames. I was the kid at school that got slated because I openly said I prefer the saturn to the playstation.

In fact the saturn was the first console I started importing for!

For me it was a genre where games took a new level, 3d levels, gorgeous soundtracks all seemed amazing back in the day! The only thing thats impressed me since is the DC and slowly my love of gaming has deteriorated since.

I currently own a mk1 grey jap saturn and a mk1 black saturn, both of which sit proud in the cabinet underneath the TV.

IMO since the days of the saturn there hasn't been many games that have stood out for me and made me think WOW. Sure there are a few hits but I no longer have the urge to get home and sit down playing games......unless of course I've a new saturn game!

    RIP Sega Saturn

I hope with all my gaming heart that sega return to the hardware scene once again.

Are the stick, buttons and their internal parts the same as in a regular single player Japanese Virtua Stick?

The dual stick must have been pretty rare. I have seen a few estimates of the size of the production run but nothing very reliable. Any idea? And any other background information would be greatly appreciated. It seem that the controller was released in the summer of 1996. The release date seems to be the same as the one for Virtua Fighter Kids. Fighting Vipers was released a month later (according to Gamefaqs) but the controller comes with the moves etc. information slip for the game.

not only it's hard to find and expensive the shipping one of these thing is major killer...
the thing weighs tons! don't expect you will have much left out of $400+ when shipping out of Japan...

Mine is currently in transit from japan...mint complete in the box...E215 including shipping. Expect a piccie in the purchase thread soon

They were Yen24,800 (lol) when released btw and can't be that hard to find. I've been offered them countless times..strangely from Australia more than japan. Is there a big saturn contingent in Oz dj898?

Ah the Saturn, It was probably the only console I seriously imported for. Got my first one back in 95 for ?400 with VF1. Initial impressions were not good and I ****ed it off for a PS1. Came back to the fold when I saw VF2, Sega Rally and Virtua Cop though. It was probably the best time to be a Sega boy. When I saw Xmen Vs SF I bought an import one just to play that game as well as a few others. Fast Forward 8 years and my Jap Saturn is screwed.

Should I keep hold of some of my more valuable Sega Jap titles or sell them? I'm talking about Xmen Vs SF, Street Fighter Zero 3, Marvel Vs SF, and Radiant Silvergun.

can't say I've seen many but apparently in OZ stuff for Saturn aren't that expensive and stuff do come up from time to time...

I've seen a few Radiant Silverguns pop up on eBay from Australian sellers... low reserves (but went through the roof because of international bidders). I've had a crack at a few of 'em...

totally agree with you kingston about 95-96 arcade gaming
There were 2 of those mean machines at the Namco Wonderpark back in the day. It was an amazing experience sitting in the seat with that massive screen in front and racing a mate- I was addicted to the rush!

95-96 was for me the greateast era for 3D arcade gaming. There were so many excellent machines around from Namco-Sega-Konami-Capcom and SNK- it gives me a warm glow whenever I think about it!

well i've returned from my wee trip to cardiff/bristol and i've managed to play some more saturn games and here is my thoughts

                            house of the dead
absolutely awful - one of the worst conversions i've ever seen

                            daytona circuit edition
                            much better than daytona usa

                            sega rally
excellent but i found it very difficult - i remember i used to be good at it

                            xmen vs streetfighter
                            brilliant just brilliant

                            marvel vs streetfighter
                            see above

                            marvel super heroes
                            again excellent

                            xmen children of the atom
                            another gem

                            streetfighter collection
                            brilliant

                            streetfighter zero 2
                            excellent

                            virtua fighter kids
alot of fun and still enjoyable

                            groove on fight
looks okay - lovely set pieces were you get to launch characters mid fight

                            gradius deluxe
                            cheers john - pretty decent

                            chase hq & sci
lovely and still as good as my emulator

                            guardian heroes
                            absolutely brilliant - just brilliant

                            radiant silvergun
havent quite got it - loads of buttons, but certainly has potential

the following are now on their way to me:
STREET FIGHTER REAL BATTLE ON FILM
                            WINTER HEAT
                            BURNING RANGER
                            POCKET FIGHTER
                            LAYER SECTION II
                            GOLDEN AXE THE DUEL
                            ELEVATOR ACTION RETURNS
                            STREET FIGHTER ZERO 3
They are coming from ebay and various saturn games coming from the forums

still have to say very happy with my purchase

Haha, yeah it is pretty muddy. It's one of my guilty pleasures, though.

Come on, it's not that bad. Yeah, it looks really crap but still plays and sounds good The conversion wasn't by Sega either but by an Australian company as far as I remember.
